Call of Duty: Warzone is just days away from getting its first-ever new map, Rebirth Island, along with all of the weapons and equipment from Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War. However, while there’s plenty new things coming to Rebirth Island, Verdansk is also getting a few changes, particularly where it concerns the Gulag.
The Gulag Changes Coming in Season One
“It’s time to step out of the Gulag showers,” writes Activision; “as prisoners of Warzone are now dragged to an interrogation room, strapped to a chair, and thrown into an all-new Gulag where the 1v1 battle rules are similar, but the arena is completely different!”
When Black Ops Cold War Season One launches on the 16th, the Warzone Gulag will be getting some big changes. In Verdansk, the Gulag will be getting a completely new map, which is actually based on the original Nuketown! According to Activision, the aesthetic of the map is based on the ‘Amerika Town’ area from the Black Ops Cold War story campaign; a Soviet training course designed to look like an archetypal American town. Like the old Gulag, players will be able to throw rocks from a series of walkways above the map.
Rebirth Island, the new map, is also getting its own take on the Gulag. This area is located below the island’s Prison Block area. There, players will be forced to take part in 1v1 fights in a new arena map, which was once used by Perseus for experimenting on test subjects. Prisoners will start on opposite ends of two hallways which run parallel to the central chamber. Whenever an Operator passes down one of these hallways, it sets off an audible metal detector; warning their opponent of their impending approach. As with the Verdansk Gulag, players will also be able to hurl stones, as per usual.
