EA Announces NHL 20 Gaming World Championship Registration Details
Hockey gamers will soon have a chance to show their skills and possibly compete for big money at the NHL 20 Gaming World Championship. Last year saw Matt “Top-Shelf-Cookie” Gutkoski claim the top prize in Las Vegas. A new gamer could follow in his footsteps on the virtual ice for 2020. Here are the latest details on registration for this year’s esports championship event.
NHL 20 Gaming World Championship registration
In a video announcement featuring YouTube gamer Nasher, the first details for the NHL 20 Gaming World Championship arrived. Nasher mentioned how last year’s WGC was the first to feature Hockey Ultimate Team as well as a draft to create interesting team and lineup combos. It’ll be back again for the 2020 edition, as Online Open Play to try to qualify starts on March 11.
That Online Open Play will run until April 5 for gamers on the PlayStation 4 and Xbox 1 consoles, according to the NHL website. The top players for each console advance to the Online Play-in Bracket where they can earn a trip to the Regional Finals and World Final.
This will be the third consecutive year for the tournament and it will feature the largest prize pool in the history of the competition so far. This year there’s a total of $150,000 up for grabs. Last year’s GWC featured the aforementioned Matt “Top-Shelf-Cookie” Gutkoski winning the trophy and $50,000 in prize money.

The first round of the NHL 20 Gaming World Championship takes place on Wednesday, March 11. The tournament will ultimately yield the best NHL 20 HUT gamers in the United States, Canada, and Europe for the PS4 and Xbox One.
