EA Servers Down: FIFA, Madden 19 Among Affected Online Games

A server issue is affecting many gamers who play popular EA Sports titles. As of Sunday (May 5), EA reported they are investigating an issue and working to resolve it. However, it continues to plague popular games such as FIFA 19 and Madden 19 as far as their online features. Here is the latest update on what’s going on with EA.

EA reports server issue Sunday night

EA games such as NBA Live, Madden, and FIFA, amongst others utilize online servers for various modes or features. These include competitive games against other players around the world. As of this report, the pop-up message below was appearing on the Madden 19 screen when one tries to go to the Ultimate Team mode.

A pop-up message on the Madden 19 game lets gamers know they need to be online to use a certain game feature.

FIFA 19 also involves an Ultimate Team feature which relies on the online connection. In the popular mode, gamers construct teams of players from cards they can acquire in the game through packs, a transfer market, or various challenges. Due to the EA server issues, that feature is inoperable.

Around 5:30 p.m. Eastern Time on Sunday, the EA Help Twitter account posted a tweet to let everyone know of the issue. They indicated that network teams are busy working on the problem with connectivity. However, they had yet to provide any timeframe for when the servers might be working again.

A number of user issues were reported at the Down Detector website over the past several hours. A peak of 2,128 user reports was shown on the site’s graph within just the past few hours. There are also a number of user comments regarding different games and proposed “compensatory rewards” for the server downtime.

Other games from EA that involve online features include popular titles like Apex Legends and Battlefield. In addition, the EA Origin service was reportedly affected by the server downtime. As of this report, there’s still no word on how long it will take to resolve these issues or get the various EA games’ online components up and running again.

Update (9:30 p.m. ET): EA posted an update on Twitter that they’ve resolved a large number of the connectivity issues. They also advised gamers to try restarting their games if connectivity issues continue.
