As the release date draws closer for EA Sports’ new MMA simulation game, we are getting a look at more of the UFC 4 rankings. The latest includes fighters who are in the top 20 overall, but not quite the top 20. Amongst them are former cover star Conor McGregor and one of the new cover stars, Jorge Masvidal. Here are more details on where they rank and how they rate along with other fighters.
McGregor cracks top 20 of EA Sports UFC 4 rankings
Over past editions of the EA Sports UFC game, Conor McGregor was celebrated as one of the best in the Octagon. Some still feel he has it, but based on the new UFC 4 rankings, he’s now the No. 20 fighter in their simulation game.
Back in January, McGregor recorded a bounce back victory against Donald Cerrone at UFC 246. That was his first fight since Oct. 2018 where he lost a UFC Lightweight Championship bout by submission to Khabib Nurmagomedov.
Also in the list for fighters ranked No. 11 through No. 20 is new cover star Jorge Masvidal. Many fans believe the Welterweight already suffered some sort of curse similar to the EA Madden cover curse. On the same day that Masvidal was officially unveiled as a cover star, he suffered his first loss in the past four fights. Masvidal fell to Kamaru Usman in a battle over the Welterweight Championship. He’ll enter the first official UFC 4 rankings as No. 14 overall.
Other notable fighters on the list include women’s strawweight competitor Rose Namajunas at No. 17 and former UFC flyweight Demetrious “Mighty Mouse” Johnson. Much like Cris Cyborg, who was part of previous fighter rankings, Johnson is no longer fighting with UFC but instead with ONE Championship.
We also see Daniel Cormier ranked at No. 16 overall. DC announced recently that he’ll be a special ratings adjustor for the upcoming game. Many fans are surprised he’s so far from the top 10, but that could always change since he has major input in the rankings.
Who’s left for the top 10 fighters?
We’ve now seen a number of major stars who have fought in the Octagon, but there are 10 more fighters left for UFC 4 rankings. We’ve yet to see top names including those who UFC ranks in the top five on their website. That includes Jon Jones, Khabib Nurmagomedov, and cover star Israel Adesanya.Â
Another of the guys ranked top 5 via UFC is Stipe Miocic. Interestingly enough, his next fight is against the guy who ranks at No. 16 above. Daniel Cormier (22-2-) is set to face Miocic (19-3) at UFC 252 on August 15, right after the new UFC 4 game comes out. Could DC have set himself up for a goal and a major rise in the rankings with his No. 16 spot above?
Also absent so far are several notable champions currently in the UFC. So that would include Women’s Bantamweight/Featherweight champion Amanda Nunes, Strawweight champ Weili Zhang and Flyweight champ Valentina Shevchenko.
Stay tuned as the debates are likely to continue over the new UFC game and where fighters are ranked! Check out all of the rankings so far over at EA’s UFC website.
