While some may have expected EA Sports UFC 4 trailer to arrive during tonight’s UFC 251 event, it was released much earlier. The first official reveal trailer gives fans of the mixed martial arts video game franchise a glimpse of what’s to come in the new title. In addition, we learned about the official cover stars, release date, and pre-order details including two bonus fighters who aren’t traditionally part of MMA.
New EA Sports UFC 4 trailer packs in new fight locations, cover stars
Ahead of UFC 251, the new EA Sports UFC 4 trailer debuted on YouTube and other social media platforms on Saturday afternoon. It features a combination of real-life footage including the game’s cover stars, as well as plenty of looks at the new gameplay. That gameplay appears to only be for the current generation consoles, though.
The trailer lasts about two minutes and features a glimpse of brand new fighting locations including a backyard cage area and some sort of sacred temple setting complete with golden serpents. Also featured in the video is a song by Action Bronson which samples The Who’s Baba O’Riley.
Amongst the fighters we see through the UFC 4 gameplay are Jorge Masvidal and Israel Adesanya, both of whom have real-life footage and narration. We also see Nate Diaz, Conor McGregor, and Khabib Nurmagedov, as well as women’s MMA stars, getting spots throughout the trailer. Bruce Lee even makes a cameo during the trailer.
Some gamers were hopeful that Khabib Nurmagedov might appear on the cover, but that wasn’t the case. We even had him amongst our cover star predictions. However, it’s been revealed that Jorge Masvidal and Israel Adesanya will be the game’s official cover athletes. Both players appeared in previously leaked screenshot images that we reported about recently.
Masvidal is in the main event of tonight’s UFC 251 event, taking on welterweight champion Kamaru Usman. Some fans are already wondering if he’ll get hit by a cover curse and end up losing the fight.
The 30-year-old Adesanya hails from New Zealand and is the current UFC Middleweight Champion. UFC President Dana White previously confirmed that Adesanya will take on Paulo Costa for his next fight, possibly in August. However, he does not have an officially-scheduled fight as of yet.
UFC 4 release date, pre-order details, and cost
EA Sports UFC 4 title has an official release date of August 14, 2020. That’s just two weeks prior to EA’s Madden 21 launch date. The game will be available for just the Sony PlayStation 4 and Microsoft Xbox One right now. Pre-orders have already gone live in conjunction with the new trailer.
Gamers who pre-order UFC 4 get special bonus fighters. As shown at the end of the trailer above, they’ll be boxing stars, Anthony Joshua and Tyson Fury, making their way into the world of mixed martial arts. That sets up some interesting battles between the traditional boxers and MMA stars.
The UFC 4 Standard Edition is $59.99 like many other games. There’s a discount available from EA Access which makes the game just $53.99. The EA Access membership generally costs $4.99 a month or $29.99 for a year and also gives access to an online games library, pre-order discounts, and more.
