ECS Season 5 Finals Groups – Astralis and FaZe Avoid Early Contact

The ECS Season 5 Finals are being held in the Wembley Arena, London between June 8-10. They come after another exciting online season split between European and North American leagues, from which, four teams from each region advanced to the offline finals. It is an event that each year promises to provide us with explosive Counter-Strike.

We knew the location, the dates and the teams however we, until now, were in the dark about how the groups would look. With it being an eight team event, there are only two groups of four which are actually decided by the teams themselves, to an extent.

Group Selection Process

The top two seeded teams, one from each region, get to start out by placing the first two teams. Astralis, representing Group A, chose to put their closest rivals for the number one spot, FaZe, into Group B. Meanwhile NRG, representing Group B, decided they wanted nothing to do with Fnatic in the group stage and sent them to Group A.

Next up to pick was FaZe as they poured Team Liquid into Group A as Fnatic sent G2 Esports to Group B. Finally, G2 Esports condemned Cloud9 to Group A and by default Luminosity to Group B. This left us with the following groups.

Group A looks to be a tough one with the recent ESL Pro League champions Astralis heading the group alongside Major Champions Cloud9, a new look Fnatic and an always capable Team Liquid. Group B is no walk in the park however with FaZe being on of the strongest in the world and NRG storming the North American online portion.

Talent

More information we have about the exciting event is the talent lineup that will be bringing all the action to fans in the arena and around the world. The announced lineup includes some of the world’s best casters whilst bringing in some well known ex-players to help with analysis.
