Creative Assembly recently announced the first full post-launch DLC release for Total War: Three Kingdoms, set during the War of the Eight Princes. The Eight Princes DLC brings a new campaign set one hundred years after the main game, with eight new playable faction leaders. However, the studio has now confirmed that the DLC will also bring new content to the game’s main campaign.
Eight Princes Will Bring New Content to the Main Campaign Too
While fan reactions to the Eight Princes DLC announcement has seemed to have been mostly very positive, it seems that some players have stated a preference for new content for the game’s main campaign. (The Eight Princes campaign will be a new, standalone campaign with its own playable faction leaders.) As such, Creative Assembly today issued a reassurance of two things. Firstly, that Eight Princes will actually add new content to the main campaign too. Secondly, that they are planning future DLC to add in main campaign content as well.
“When it comes to the Chapter Packs,” explains the studio, on Facebook; “we’ve mentioned that these are something we want to do for THREE KINGDOMS, but it doesn’t mean that it’s the only kind of DLC that you’re going to get. We’re planning more expansion-type content, as well as more DLCs like the Yellow Turbans, which add new playable factions to the main campaign.”
The clarification included details of what’s coming to the main campaign with Eight Princes. Firstly, generic generals will have access to 17 new armour variations which can be generated by campaign buildings. Secondly, four new units will be coming to the game. Cataphracts are a heavy cavalry unit available to Vanguard characters which require the Shock Warfare technology. Heavy Cataphracts will be available to any Vanguards of level 6+ and will require the Barded Mounts technology. The DLC will also bring in a Mounted Crossbows unit available to Strategists which require the Divine Manipulation of Threads technology. Finally, a new Heavy Mounted Archers unit will be available to all characters at level 6+. They will require the Swiftness is the Key in War technology.
