Deviating from their previous trends, Bethesda chose to announce The Elder Scrolls 6 very early, during E3 earlier this year. The reason for that was recently explained. However, fans shouldn’t mistake the early announcement for an indication that the game will be coming anytime soon. In fact, it could still be years away from release. In a recent interview, it was confirmed that the game will be launching on the next generation of consoles.
The Elder Scrolls 6 Very Unlikely to Come to the Current Console Generation
The news comes courtesy of Matt Firor, the director of The Elder Scrolls: Online at ZeniMax Online Studios. Firor spoke with GameSpot recently during PAX Australia, where he also revealed why The Elder Scrolls: Online won’t be coming to the Nintendo Switch. Referring to both Starfield and The Elder Scrolls 6, the next two games to come from Bethesda Game Studios after Fallout 76, he said; “The easiest thing is look at how it was announced; it was Starfield and then Elder Scrolls 6,” he explains; “You can go back and count the years between Bethesda Game Studios releases, and you’ll get the idea it’s not coming anytime soon.”
Indeed, he went on to clarify; “there will be a different console generation by then, I’m sure.”
These new comments from Firor echo what Todd Howard and Pete Hines have said in the past. Starfield has already been in development for years, but Bethesda has given no indication of when it will release. Indeed, fans have yet to see any footage of the game. The Elder Scrolls 6, on the other hand, was still in pre-production when last it was spoken about by Todd Howard during E3. In all likelihood, it will be at least two years before its release, but could easily be longer.
Fans can certainly hope that, following the release of Fallout 76 in November, Bethesda begins to talk more about their upcoming projects. However, with the release of post-launch content and more for the game; it may be a while yet before any major news emerges.
