The Elder Scrolls: Blades can be said to have had something of a mixed release. The game has received some criticism from players regarding elements like micro-transactions and grinding, for example. However, the game has also been an undeniable commercial success; in its first week alone, the Elder Scrolls mobile was downloaded more than 1 million times. Plus, in that same time, it made over $500,000 in revenue! Now, at E3 2019, Bethesda has announced that there is to be an Elder Scrolls: Blades Switch release later this year.
The Upcoming Elder Scrolls: Blades Switch Release
The Elder Scrolls: Blades released earlier this year on Android and iOS mobile devices. Although it was initially marketed as also coming to PC (and featuring platform cross-play between PC and mobile), the game hasn’t yet come to that platform. (Though a PC release is expected to come sometime later this year.) Fans do now have confirmation, however, that Blades will be coming to the Nintendo Switch. The release doesn’t have a firm date yet, but will be sometime during Fall of 2019.
“Carry over all your progress from the mobile version,” states Bethesda; “or start a new adventure from scratch. Playable in docked or tablet mode, Blades on Switch takes advantage of the platform’s unique Joy-Cons and motion controls to support a variety of playstyles.”
Of course, Blades will continue to be a free-to-play title on the Switch, just as it is on mobile. Plus, it will feature cross-play with mobile devices, and allow players to transfer their progress back and forth across platforms. Bethesda has more content coming to Blades later this year, which was also announced during the E3 presentation, and the Switch version should release following this new content. As such, Switch fans can likely look forward to a greatly expanded Blades experience when the game does eventually arrive on the platform.
