Enter the Gungeon, the chaotic pixel-based roguelike from indie developer Dodge Roll, recently received a sizeable new update called Advanced Gungeons & Draguns (a clever riff on the classic Advanced Dungeons & Dragons pen-and-paper game). Along with new power-ups, synergies, and enemy types, the update naturally adds in a bunch of new firearms for players to wield, including one which should look eerily familiar to fans of Bungie’s Destiny franchise.
Among the new weapons contained in the Advanced Gungeons & Draguns update is a rocket launcher called ‘The Exotic.’ Looking at the below image, it’s clear that The Exotic is modeled after the iconic Destiny Exotic rocket launcher Gjallarhorn, a weapon which was so powerful that it was often listed as a requirement to participate in Destiny’s early raiding scene. Unfortunately, Gjallarhorn’s popularity among raiders was matched only by its scarcity, though Bungie corrected that problem somewhat a little later on by re-introducing a new version of Gjallarhorn as a pre-order bonus for Destiny’s Rise of Iron expansion.
In Enter the Gungeon, The Exotic has a special perk called Pack of Wolves that allows the homing rockets it fires to split into smaller short-range swarms as they approach enemies. Again, this is a direct homage to Gjallarhorn’s Wolfpack Rounds perk that causes each rocket it fires to split into smaller homing missiles upon detonation. As an added bonus, The Exotic also comes with a helpful Ghost companion (themed around Destiny’s Ghost) that reveals the contents of item chests before the player opens them, which is handy since opening chests in Enter the Gungeon requires spending a limited supply of keys.
As for Destiny 2 proper, Bungie recently released the game’s 1.2.3 update, and in about a week’s time players will also be able to participate in the Solstice of Heroes event.
