Epic Games Provides An Update On Matchmaking Improvements

Fortnite Battle Royale is a fantastic game, but some of its players deal with lag from time to time. Fortunately, Epic Games is working on making the game more enjoyable for every player in every region. This is why the game developer has recently introduced sub-region matchmaking for the popular video game.

Thanks to this option, Fortnite players are able to play the game with a lower ping, which makes it more enjoyable. In short, the game developer has added more data servers in each region, and these servers will eventually be enabled for everyone.

Sub-region matchmaking update

Epic Games has first introduced us to the sub-region matchmaking in late August. This is when Asian servers got an additional data center in Singapore. Now, Fortnite players from Asia connect to either a Singapore or a Tokyo data center, depending on which one they are closer to. However, it’s important to keep in mind that players will not always connect to the closest data center. The distance is just one of many factors that affect this.

Shortly after this, the game developer enabled additional data centers in Europe and North America. Even though every region doesn’t have multiple data centers at the moment, this is what Epic Games plans to do. Sean Hamilton, Epic Games’ Community Coordinator, has recently revealed the upcoming plans for this feature.

“Our final vision and goal for sub-region matchmaking is to allow players for each region to automatically connect to the data-center which offer them the best possible network experience,” is what Hamilton posted on Reddit. Epic Games will continue to determine which regions would benefit from additional data centers and add them in the future.

Additionally, the community manager wrote that party leaders will determine sub-regions if there are more players in a party. Unfortunately, it doesn’t seem that NA-West players will get an additional data center soon.
