If you play a lot of Fortnite, or watch content surrounding it online, you’re probably already keenly aware of the scams surrounding the game. For instance, there’s a big hubbub at all times surrounding scam sites that offer free or discounted V-Bucks everywhere you turn. It shouldn’t be any sort of surprise that these things are happening, nor that none of it is real or will ever get you the free or cheap V-Bucks you’re wanting, but people are still falling for it. People are being scammed all the time, and Epic Games wants you to make sure you’re not going to.

We actually discussed this very scam issue a few weeks ago, when stories about a epidemic of “free V-Bucks” videos on YouTube began making the rounds, and hitting folks who were gullible enough to click into the videos and follow their nefarious instructions. Now it seems that Epic Games has made it their duty to continually remind players that these things are bad for you, and bad for your account.
The tweet links to an Account Security Bulletin that you can check out to learn more about hackers and the techniques they’re using to help explain what’s going down and how best to protect yourself. One of the best things you can do at present is set up two-factor authentication on your Fortnite account, and do that posthaste.
You should also be wary of offers that claim to give you free V-Bucks, cheaper ones, or a way to “share” or buy entire Fortnite accounts in the first place. Epic Games stresses that it will never ask you for any personal information that could be used to access your account, and that’s an important part of this to remember. Mostly, you need to make sure you steer clear of spammy sites that ask you to log in or provide any identifying imformation, and stay safe out there. You don’t want to lose all your precious progress, right?
Heed Epic Games’ warning, and be safe — then pass that message on to others, as well. “Free” V-Bucks, even if they existed, wouldn’t be worth losing all your account information and access for.
