On Thursday, ESPN revealed that they’ll be presenting a celebrity tournament using EA’s Madden 20 video game. The event will feature ESPN sports personalities, musicians, and various NFL stars. Amongst those participating in the ESPN Madden NFL 20 Celebrity Tournament will be former 99 Club member DeAndre Hopkins and Super Bowl Champion Travis Kelce.
ESPN announces Madden NFL 20 Celebrity Tournament
Following in the footsteps of the NBA 2K Players-Only Tournament and MLB Players League games, ESPN is bringing yet another sports tourney for fans to enjoy. The newest is the ESPN Madden NFL 20 Celebrity Tournament which will take place next week. A tweet on Thursday brought the news of the event. Tight end Travis Kelce of the Super Bowl Champion Chiefs is just one of the celebrity competitors.
Many other NFL stars will participate. They include Marquise “Hollywood” Brown, Devonta Freeman, Drew Lock, Melvin Gordon, Cam Jordan, Stefon Diggs, and DeAndre Hopkins. As mentioned, Hopkins was part of the Madden 99 Club when the game originally launched last year.
In addition to the NFL stars, there are also UFC stars Daniel Cormier and Chris Weidman competing. A number of ESPN personalities will also participate including Omar Raja, Pat McAfee, and Katie Nolan as well as hip-hop artists YG, Lil Yachty, and Snoop Dogg. Of those individuals, Yachty and Snoop were both featured in the Madden Superstar KO mode as characters.
The event follows in the footsteps of the Madden event that FOX presented which saw Los Angeles Chargers star Derwin James capture the title. Interestingly, James is not featured in this field, but there are several other major NFL stars capable to getting the win.
Whichever celebrity competitor wins the tournament will have a donation made to Feeding America in their name following the championship game.
