From tomorrow until Tuesday the 7th of September, Activision will be giving gamers the chance to try Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War for free, as part of a Free Access event. Running alongside this event will also be an extended Double XP weekend, starting on Friday the 3rd.
Call of Duty’s Next Double XP Weekend
“Looking to level up twice as fast over the long weekend?” writes Activision; “Jump into an extended 2XP Weekend in Black Ops Cold War, running concurrently with the Free Access period from September 3 to 7.”

Specifically, this event will be offering Double XP for all players (not Double Weapon XP, etc.). The timing of the event ensures that players participating in the Free Access event will be able to progress twice as fast as normal, thus allowing them to make the most of the limited access period. Only the first day of the event – the 2nd – will not offer Double XP at the same time.
The Free Access event will be offering players across all platforms a selection of Multiplayer and Zombies content. The Multiplayer selection will include more than twenty-five maps and nine different game modes, including the brand-new Double Agent mode. Meanwhile, the Zombies portion of the event will include all of Outbreak, including the new Season 5 region and content. PlayStation players will also be able to play the PlayStation-exclusive Onslaught mode.
Both the Free Access event and 2XP Weekend are due to end on the 7th of September; the same day that the worldwide reveal of Call of Duty: Vanguard Multiplayer. Just a few days later, Activision and Sledgehammer Games will be launching Vanguard’s first Open Beta. This event will only be available to play on PlayStation for players with Early Access. (Gained by pre-ordering the upcoming game.) The Open Beta will be taking place from the 10th of September to the 13th.
