Pete Hines has clarified several more aspects aboutĀ Fallout 76. The Bethesda Vice President recently made clear that Fallout 76 loot would work via individual instances; so rival players won’t be able to clear out an area before you get a chance to explore it. He has now clarified that loot will be entirely random for each player. In addition, he has made clear that the game will feature no difficulty options.

Randomized Fallout 76 Loot and No Difficulty Options
Last week, Pete Hines was asked by a fan on Twitter whether another player could take loot before they get the chance. His answer was a clear no; the loot will appear differently in each player’s instance. However, it was unclear if players playing as a group might share some things. We now know that the loot will actually be random for every player. So even players in the same group, playing cooperatively together, will find different randomized and instanced loot. Players will be to trade items, however, so allies may still be able to give one another the items which they find.

Hines also addressed the game’s difficulty options in response to another question. A fan on Twitter asked whether there would be a difficulty setting for enemies which could be adjusted, as there typically is in Bethesda’s games. Hines’ response was very clear that there will not be any such options. Because players share the same game-world, creatures cannot exist at two different difficulty settings simultaneously.

Hopefully, Bethesda balances the difficulty to feel appropriate for players in Fallout 76. With players now able to band together in groups of up to 4, the studio faces the challenge of balancing the difficulty to account for both solo players and cooperative groups. As of yet, the studio has not given an explanation for how the system will account for that disparity between players. Players hoping to enjoy Fallout 76 solo would no doubt be very unhappy if certain enemies were almost impossible to defeat without other players helping out.
