Following yesterday’s reveal of the upcoming Fallout 76 Wastelanders DLC, in which Bethesda revealed that NPCs and a new main story will be coming to the game, the studio has now unveiled what’s coming first; the Fallout 76 Nuclear Winter DLC. While Wastelanders is coming later this year, Nuclear Winter is the next upcoming release. As it turns out, the DLC will be bringing a battle royale mode to the game.
What’s Coming in the Fallout 76 Nuclear Winter DLC
When Bethesda first announced the Fallout 76 Nuclear Winter and Wastelanders expansions, they said that Nuclear Winter would add a whole new way to play the game. Now it’s clear exactly what that meant. Previously, speculation had leaned towards a variant of Adventure Mode with far harsher survival conditions. This, however, is quite different. Nuclear Winter is a 52-player PvP battle royale mode for Fallout 76.
“Nukes have set the world ablaze and the battle to claim your spot as Overseer of Vault 51 has begun,” says Bethesda; “will you be the last one standing or be consumed by the ring of fire? Rank up, unlock exclusive perks and build your C.A.M.P. to weather the storm in true Fallout fashion. Scavenger for weapons, supplies, and nukes to take on other players and creatures and earn unique cosmetic rewards.”
While Nuclear Winter features plenty of things players would expect to see in a battle royale mode, it does also have some unique twists on the formula. The mode appears to allow all the C.A.M.P. building from the core game, for example, allowing people to construct turrets and other defences. Plus, it seems that the arena is also home to enemy creatures, including beasts as dangerous as Scorchbeasts! That isn’t all that players will need to worry about, as it seems that nukes will also be available to deploy during a match, causing widespread devastation wherever it lands.
Nuclear Winter will, like all Fallout 76 DLC, be free to download when it releases. Fans can get a sneak peek of the upcoming mode right now, however. Until the 17th of June, Nuclear Winter and the entire base game is free to try out.
