On a few occasions now, Bethesda has teased an upcoming “faction-based PvP mode” for Fallout 76. However, the studio had always avoided giving any details about the mode. Now, however, the studio has given fans some indication of what form this upcoming mode will take; according to Bethesda, this Fallout 76 PvP mode will provide a “more hardcore” experience.
The Upcoming “More Hardcore” Fallout 76 PvP Mode
Although most details are still under wraps about the planned Fallout 76 PvP mode, Bethesda chose to dedicate a section of their latest ‘Inside the Vault‘ news blog to it. This short section came at the very end of the post, beneath details about Bethesda’s efforts to tackle exploits, the next upcoming patch, and a request for feedback about Fallout 76 events.
“You may recall late last year we mentioned we’re working on a new way of playing the game that removed PvP restrictions,” begins Bethesda; “While we’re still doing some tweaking and adding, we thought we’d give you a little more info to go on. Think of it like playing the game you’re playing right now, but with no PvP rules. We want to introduce significantly more tension, drama, and consequence with every encounter with another human player.”
According to Bethesda, more details about this mode will be revealed next week. Additionally, they clarify that this mode will be a standalone way to play the game; one that will be available through a separate option in the main menu. There’s still a lot of unanswered questions, of course, such as whether players can import characters from the primary version of the game, or exactly what parts of the PvP system will be disabled. However, it sounds as though it will provide players who want a more PvP-oriented experience a way to play on dedicated servers without the normal PvP mechanics.
Fallout 76 does have fairly robust anti-griefing mechanics. However, these can make it difficult for players who want more PvP to get that sort of experience. There is one PvP mode in the game already; Hunter/Hunted. However, the nature of its design makes it difficult to find opponents unless you’re playing with a group of friends. More PvP options is something that a fair number of players have been requesting, and it sounds as though they may soon get their wish.
