Just over two months since the release of Far Cry 5, Ubisoft has now released Far Cry 3 Classic Edition online. The remastered Classic Edition of 2012’s Far Cry 3 is the first item in Far Cry 5’s Season Pass content. For now, the game is available for download only, and is only available to Season Pass holders.
Far Cry 3 Classic Edition
Far Cry 3 Classic Edition was first announced along with Far Cry 5’s three DLC expansions. The game was included as a free download for those who bought Far Cry 5’s Gold Edition or Season Pass. For now, the game is only available to those individuals. However, the Classic Edition will be released to the rest of the public in four weeks time, on the 26th of June. As of yet, Ubisoft has not confirmed what the price of the standalone release will be. They also have yet to confirm whether the game will be download-only, or available as a physical release. One retailer leak appeared to suggest that there would be a physical release, but is currently unconfirmed.
Fans of the Far Cry series don’t have long to wait at all for new content either. The first part of Far Cry 5’s Season Pass DLC, “Hours of Darkness,” releases in just six days. It will be the first of three expansion packs for Far Cry 5 featuring standalone stories; all based on B-movie tropes. In the Far Cry universe, the three DLCs are based on films directed by the character of Guy Marvel. This fictional film director appears in Far Cry 5 directing a sequel to “Blood Dragon”.
Ubisoft has not yet announced release dates for the other two expansions, “Lost on Mars” and “Living Dead Zombies”, but it seems realistic to assume that Lost on Mars will release within the next couple of months; Far Cry 4’s DLC packs all released within a month or two of one another.
