Widespread speculation that the second Far Cry 5 DLC would release this month has now been confirmed; Ubisoft has released a teaser trailer for the Lost on Mars DLC. The trailer reveals details of the second expansion’s story, and also confirms that its release date will be in just one week’s time.
The Far Cry 5 Lost on Mars DLC
As stated in the trailer, the Lost on Mars DLC will release on the 17th of July. Given that Hours of Darkness launched around a month ago, it seems reasonable to expect the third DLC, Living Dead Zombies, to release in August. A lot of information about Lost on Mars has already been released. The achievement list was revealed last week. Moreover, the DLC’s new weapons and assets have already been added to the game’s Arcade Mode.
However, one thing that had yet to be revealed was the story of Lost on Mars. As the trailer reveals, that story is a lot more ridiculous than it initially appeared. The DLC casts the player as Nick Rye, the Gun-for-Hire pilot who appeared in Far Cry 5. Somehow, Hurk appears to have travelled to Mars, and calls Nick for help defeating an alien threat. Whether time travel is involved here is somewhat unclear; nevertheless, the story is sending the Hope County pilot to the barren wastes of Mars to face a swarm of alien insects. The Lost on Mars DLC also includes a host of new sci-fi weapons. These range from the Morphinator to the Power Glove to the Blaster of Disaster. A far cry indeed from the real-world firearms of the base game, and the Vietnam War-era firearms of Hours of Darkness.
It remains to be seen exactly how long this second DLC will be. Unlike Hours of Darkness, the expansion has no achievements that cannot be got in a single play-through. Some fans criticized the short length of Hours of Darkness when it released. Fans will have to wait for the 17th before they can see for themselves whether Lost on Mars’ length is comparable.
