Although Far Cry New Dawn will feature eight Guns-for-Hire instead of nine, as Far Cry 5 had, the companion system looks set to deliver an interesting roster of both new and returning faces. Instead of choosing between a dog, a mountain lion, and a bear, players will be able to choose between Timber, the new Akita dog companion, and Horatio, a massive boar. Meanwhile, Hurk is returning as one of the Far Cry New Dawn Guns-for-Hire, while Pastor Jerome is also returning from the last game and transitioning into the Guns-for-Hire roster. When it comes to new faces, there is plenty of choice. Alongside Gina Guerra and The Judge is Nana, a new sniper.
The Far Cry New Dawn Guns-for-Hire: Nana
Like The Judge, Nana is adopting an existing Gun-for-Hire archetype. In Far Cry 5, the Hunter and Sniper roles were filled by Jess Black and Grace Armstrong, respectively. In Far Cry New Dawn, they are filled by The Judge and Nana. Although Grace Armstrong is confirmed to appear in the game, it seems she won’t be returning as a companion.
Very little is known about Nana at present. However, it seems that she will be a very different sort of sniper. One of the major downsides with Grace in Far Cry 5 was the fact that her sniper rifle wasn’t silenced. Nana is the total opposite. Her very first ability, in fact, is ‘Silencer’. The ability description reads; “She puts silencers on everything!”
Both Nana’s second and third abilities focus on her precision accuracy. Her second ability is ‘Smoke Monster’ which allows her to see through smoke, while her third is ‘Piercing Gaze’ which lets her shoot through cover. The choice to make Nana more oriented around stealth is interesting, since the Judge seems to be very similar to Jess Black in play-style; i.e. a stealth-focused archer. In Far Cry 5, Grace Armstrong had a slow fire rate but could kill most human enemies in a single shot. Plus, her Fear ability could cause enemies to flee in a panic. Nana, however, seems to be more of a long-range stealthy marksman.
