Although Boomer may be dead, Far Cry New Dawn does have its own canine companion for you to recruit. This time around, the dog is an Akita by the name of Timber. In order to recruit this member of the Far Cry New Dawn Guns-for-Hire roster, you’ll need to rescue him from a Highwaymen base where they slaughter dogs for food!
Far Cry New Dawn Guns-for-Hire: How to Recruit Timber
Timber isn’t too far from Prosperity. The easiest way to find Timber’s location is to talk to the Wiki-Bean-ia scouts who can be found wandering Hope County. These individuals will often provide you with quest locations. Rather than wandering the wilderness, however, simply take an outpost or two. There will always be a Wiki-Bean-ia scout in every captured outpost, and they will often point you in the direction of major nearby locations, like those of Guns-for-Hire. Timber is in a ruin which is under the control of the Highwaymen, northeast of the ruins of Fall’s End.
When you arrive at the site, you’ll find the place filled with locked cages. Initially, you won’t be able to open these. Head down into the main chamber, where two Highwaymen are talking over the corpse of a dog. This place is a slaughterhouse where the Highwaymen kill dogs for meat. Once you kill the enemies, you can find a note which mentions them a dog swallowing a key and them having to poison it; making it vomit the key up. The key isn’t here, however. Pass through into an adjacent room and you’ll find several dogs in cages, including one which you can open; the one containing Timber.
Pet Timber, and then the dog will want to show you something. Follow Timber through the ruins and climb up the wall to the upper area of the structure. There’s a few ways to progress here, but keep an eye on Timber down below, who will point you in the right direction. After you cross some metal beams, you can make your way around the tops of the empty cages until you reach the corpse of another dog and the missing key. Climb down, and Timber will return to the room where you found him. Note that you can now open the empty cages; be sure to loot them for some scattered ammo and resources.
Once you’re done, head back to the room where you found Timber. You can now unlock the rest of the cages to release the remaining dogs. At that point, the mission will end and Timber will be added to your roster as a Gun-for-Hire.
