FaZe Censor Dumps Model Girlfriend Yanet Garcia to Focus on Call of Duty

It’s the oldest story in the world. Girl meets boy. Boy gets really, really into video game. Girl loses boy— Oh wait. That isn’t how it’s supposed to go. But that’s more or less the story for pro gamer Douglas “FaZe Censor” Martin and Yanet Garcia, a Mexican TV presenter dubbed the “World’s Sexiest Weather Girl.”

FaZe recently posted a video titled, “We Broke Up,” in which he explains to the world that it’s over between him and Yanet … all because of Call of Duty.

FaZe says, “Yanet and I are no longer in a relationship with each other anymore. Yanet is an awesome girl, she deserves the best. She’s beautiful, she’s smart, she was an awesome girlfriend. I know it sounds weird I’m saying all this…it’s just, I got to do what feels right for me.”

What changed? Well, for FaZe, it comes down to Call of Duty. But lest you think this is a one-sided tale, it is a bit more complicated than that.

It’s true, FaZe chose Call of Duty over a woman who is widely considered to be one of the hottest celebrities on the planet. But before you judge him, consider that professional gaming is a serious career demanding an extraordinary commitment of time and effort.

“I’m on a contract,” says FaZe. “I have obligations I need to fulfill. It’s not like I don’t want to do this, this is the career that I want. I want to win a ring, I want to win a world championship, what I want in my life at this very moment is to compete in Call of Duty because I love it so much. I’m going to do whatever it takes to be a champion.”

Plus, Yanet’s own career choices have been pulling her in a different direction. The two used to live together in New York, but Garcia recently decided to move back to Mexico on her own to chase her professional dreams.

FaZe explains, “I’m playing Call of Duty full-time now and she wanted to take her job opportunity. I didn’t think it was going to be that difficult.”

It turned out that sustaining a long-distance relationship with such demanding careers was too much of a strain.

Garcia’s own public response was simply to post, “Heartbroken” on Twitter.

Despite that, the two continue to feature each others’ channels on YouTube, so it seems they remain on good terms with each other. Who knows—maybe someday when they are better able to juggle professional and personal commitments, they might still get back together.

All we can say is, it must’ve been really, really tough to say goodbye to this in the name of playing a video game.

Let’s hope it’s worth it.
