Last year when Cristiano Ronaldo was selected as the cover athlete for FIFA 18, it seemed like it was pretty much a given. Being as his performance is down this year, it seems unlikely he’ll end up on the cover twice in a row. So who will win the honor? Here are our top 5 FIFA 19 cover athlete predictions.
5. Harry Kane
Harry Kane made his debut back in 2011. Since then, he’s made quite a name for himself as a striker. Last year, he was ranked as the fifth best football player in the world by The Guardian. Most recently, he was selected as the England national football team’s new captain, a position where he will be able to make the most of both his leadership skills and his abilities on the pitch. He’s become an inspirational figure to football fans in England and around the world, and would be a great pick for the FIFA 19 cover.
4. David de Gea
David de Gea has played for Manchester United for seven seasons now. This year has been his best yet, and he may very well be about to win the Golden Glove. He’s on top of his game, and he is continually pushing himself and his teammates to keep improving. This would be a great year to honor him on the cover of FIFA 19.
3. Neymar
Brazilian footballer Neymar da Silva Santos Júnior has received a lot of attention this year. It’s true, not all of it has been good—Neymar’s had his woes with injuries as well as disputes with other players. But these negatives are highlighted largely because they are measured against tremendous positives. When he’s in form, he is among the best footballers on the planet. He’s certainly earned a spot on the cover of FIFA 19.
2. Antoine Griezmann
French football player Antoine Griezmann is among the best of the best—and he’s well aware of it, having stated as much himself. Lately rumors have been flying around about whether Griezmann will leave Atletico Madrid. Whether he transfers or not, one thing is sure. Wherever he ends up, he will be a huge boon to the team lucky enough to get him. He would be another excellent choice for the FIFA 19 cover.
1. Kylian Mbappe
Kylian Mbappe is another highly coveted footballer. He’s just 19 years old, and he’s already become a global sensation. Just recently, fans became concerned that Paris Saint-Germain would consider transferring him. But president Nasser Al-Khelaifi has stated, “Even if you gave me a billion, I wouldn’t sell him.” A young player who already has inestimable value like that shouldn’t be passed up for the FIFA 19 cover.
