With a few months to go until EA Sports releases their new game, they released the official FIFA 20 gameplay trailer video on Thursday. It showcases a glimpse of what to expect with the next exciting installment in their international football franchise. That will be aspects such as new set pieces, an an enhancement of one-vs-one play on both sides of the ball. In addition, EA provided a “deeper” discussion of some of these new gameplay features for fans to get a better understanding of how the game’s changed.
Official FIFA 20 gameplay trailer video arrives
When EA revealed their first FIFA 20 trailer months ago, it was more to show off the VOLTA mode, a brand new street football feature in the game. There were some star players featured in the trailer, but not as much action from actual games. That’s been resolved as of July 18, with the arrival of this official FIFA 20 gameplay trailer. The video below checks in at just under 1:30 and presents the new gameplay features to fans. There’s also a look at many of the game’s star players in action on the virtual pitch.
Those new features include new set pieces. There’s a new way to select your shot whether kicking a normal in-game goal, free kick, or penalty kick. There’s also “increased control in 1v1 battles” which applies to both offense and defense. The trailer boasts of “active touch tackling” as a new feature and new “physics driven ball movement” in FIFA 20.
It sounds like a lot of fantasy jargon to some but there are those who believe this will provide an improved product over FIFA 19.
EA provides deep dive of new features
The new FIFA 20 gameplay features will impact three areas of play: On the Ball, Off the Ball, and the Ball itself. To help fans get a more complete understanding of all these new features, EA released the first of their Pitch Notes here. These provided a deep dive of different topics related to FIFA 20 with the first looking closer at the new gameplay features.
The Pitch Notes for gameplay features break down the following topics:
- 1v1’s (Spacing and movement, Game Flow, & Tools)
- Decisive Moments (Strafe Dribbling, Controlled Tackling, Agile Jockey, Composed Finishing, Set Up Touch)
- Ball Physics
- Set Pieces Refresh (Aim, Position, Power, Spin, Timing)
- Other improvements
EA indicates in their notes that the plethora of “Other Improvements” will make the gameplay better for reading and predicting opponents rather than reacting to them. Some of these improvements will include keeping the referee out of the way of players, improved blocks, new kick-off emotions, and new celebrations/animations.
FIFA also presented a look at the full lineup of pitch notes/deep dives that they’ll release starting with July 18’s gameplay features.
Is this just a lot of hype? Basically, it sounds like EA Sports is delivering an improved product compared to FIFA 19, but only time will tell how the gaming community feels. As of right now, the biggest running joke is the lack of inclusion of the Juventus team, at least in name, jersey kit, and stadium, although fans will have all of the team’s players available to use on a fictional team.
The new EA Sports FIFA 10 game arrives on September 24, 2019 for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch (Legacy Edition), and PC via Origin.
