A brand new champion had his name added to the FIFA 20 Global Series history books. On Sunday, Ollie Arbin aka TG Ollelito was able to win his first-ever FUT trophy by claiming the FUT Champions Cup Stage III win. Here’s how Ollelito got it done and more about his thrilling esports championship victory this weekend.
TG Ollelito claims FIFA 20 Global Series win
The FUT Champions Cup Stage III took place in Atlanta, Georgia over the past three days. The tournament featured some of the best from FIFA competitive gaming including Tekkz, MSDossary, Maestro, and nicolas99fc. However, a new champion was ready to take over.
When the tournament began there were 64 total competitors vying for the title with 32 competitors for both the XBox and PS4 side of the brackets. However, that total number was halved through the first day of competition to move towards the championship.
The Knockout Stage or round of 16 started on January 18 with Ollelito advancing past Brazil’s GN10 and then taking out Britain’s Gorilla in the quarterfinals. From there, it was on to the semifinals for the new FIFA 20 Global Series star.
On the PS4 side of the bracket, UMut would defeat Britain’s Tom in the console finals. While he fell 1-0 in Game 1, Umut scored twice while holding his opponent scoreless in the second matchup for a 2-1 victory.
Ollelito claimed his Xbox finals win by the same score, but won the first game 1-0 and tied his FUT Champions Cup II winner NRASeck7 1-1 in the second game. With the close win, Ollelito bounced the previous champion to set up a Grand Final between the Xbox and PS4 champs.
The final matchup, a cross-platform battle across two games, wouldn’t be decided quite so easily. In Game 1, Ollelito appeared to be ready to dominate. He’d power through to an impressive 3-1 victory. HSV eSports’ Umut wasn’t ready to call it quits and nearly tied things up. However, he’d fall a goal short, winning the second game 2-1. That meant a combined score of 4-3 for Ollelito who became a new FUT 20 Champion.
The tournament nearly saw former champion Tekkz advance towards that final. However, he was defeated in a sudden-death situation by Stage II winner from Germany.Β That opened the door for a possible repeat champion at the latest edition of the FUT Champions Cup but NRA7 fell short.
TG Ollelito becomes richer in money, FGS points
An initial purse of $200,000 was up for grabs at the FUT Champions Cup, with the biggest share going to the champ. With the win, TG Ollelito claimed a cool $50,000 in first-place prize money. In addition to the cash and the shiny trophy he hoisted, Ollelito also won 2,000 FIFA 20 Global Series points. Those go a long way towards the future tournament that many FIFA gamers are looking to participate in.
Next up on the calendar for the FIFA 20 Global Series is the FIFA eClub World Cup from February 7-9 followed by another EA FUT Cup on Feb. 21. Events will continue through June, with the FIFA World Cup set to take place in July. See more details on EA’s website for future FGS events.
