Over the past three days, the FIFA 20 Global Series took over Paris, France in order to determine a new FUT Champions Cup winner. While it looked like a familiar face might claim the big victory, another new star emerged as PS4 champ Zezinho bested Msdossary for the trophy. Here are more details on Zezinho’s thrilling win on Sunday.
Zezinho wins FUT Champions Cup by defeating Msdossary
The FUT Champions Cup Stage IV opened this past Friday, February 21 with a total of 64 of the best FIFA players in the world competing in the 2020 tournament. There were 32 Xbox gamers and 32 PlayStation 4 gamers vying to become the champion of their respective console, and then to win the top prize in a cross-console final.
The tournament would feature well known FIFA star Tekkz a previous champion, along with stars such as Wolves Fifilza and Msdossary. The FUT Champions Cup Stage III winner Ollelito was also there.
Xbox gaming star Msdossary appeared on a path towards the trophy. He’d defeat Ollelito 3-2 in the quarterfinals, and then claimed a 5-4 victory over FaZe Clan’s Mino7x in the semifinals. The Xbox final saw Msdossary and Tekkz in a thrilling battle which was decided by penalty kicks. That sent Msdossary into the Grand Final as Xbox champion.
On the PlayStation 4 side of the bracket, The Brazilian Zezinho had a dominant 3-0 quarterfinals win over OliBoli followed by a 1-0 shutout over Maestro in the semis. Zezinho would then battle Lukas in the console finals. After a 1-1 first game, Zezinho claimed the second 2-1 to make it to the Grand Final.
Zezinho and Msdossary would tie 1-1 for their first game, but once again the PS4 champ turned things up in the second game. He’d take Game 2 by a final of 2-0 to claim the trophy, prize money, and FIFA 20 Global Series points.
Zezinho reflects on his historic win
Several pieces of history occurred with Sunday’s championship. It was Msdossary’s first loss in a FUT Champions Cup final. The win made Zezinho the first PS4 player to emerge as the FUT Champions Cup winner. He’s also the first FUT Cup Champion from South America.
Zezinho admitted following the emotional win that he didn’t expect to go this far in the tournament. “Playing dossary, for me he’s still the best, but it was just amazing and I can’t believe it,” the new FUT Cup Champion said.
He said of the $50,000 in prize money that he plans to save it for college. He’ll also receive those valuable 2,000 FIFA Global series points on the leaderboard.
