FIFA 20 Icons: Andrea Pirlo Revealed as First Icon in Return to Ultimate Team

It may be two months until FIFA 20 drops, but that doesn’t mean EA is holding back on reveals. On Saturday, EA Sports revealed several items for the upcoming title’s Ultimate Team mode. That included a look at the first four FUT 20 Ones to Watch players and also the first of the FIFA 20 icons. It’s none other than Andrea Pirlo who will make his return to the FIFA title.

Andrea Pirlo is first of FIFA 20 Icons announced

He’s back! After not appearing in FIFA 19, Pirlo will return in the FIFA 20 title. The EA Sports FIFA Twitter account simply tweeted a look at Andrea Pirlo in a brand new FIFA 20 screenshot. He’s shown standing inside a packed stadium next to a floating image of his FIFA Icon badge in the upcoming game. He’s the first of several ICON players coming to the game with EA teasing a “full feature reveal” on the final day of the month.

The Italian footballer played for several teams through his career including Inter Milan, A.C. Milan, and Juventus. He spent his final two years, 2015 through 2017, playing for MLS’ New York City Football Club. During his His career he had 524 appearances with 55 goals and 97 assists, according to FBRef.com stats.

FUT community’s reception, other ICONs requested

Right now, details are scarce about how the FIFA 20 Icons players will be acquired or used in Ultimate Team. In FIFA 19, a majority of the gaming community seemed unhappy with the Prime ICON SBCs portion of Ultimate Team. It’s unknown if Pirlo will be featured in an SBC or elsewhere. Therefore, it’s going to be interesting to see if EA goes back to Prime ICON SBCs with their new game, or brings out a different format.

So far, the Pirlo Icon news has been positive in the community. At least a few gamers commented the Andrea Pirlo’s inclusion as an Icon is the only reason they’ll buy FIFA 20. There are also gamers making their requests for other FIFA 20 Icons they’d like to see announced. Among the players being mentioned so far are Didier Drogba, Daniele Bonera, and Zinedine Zidane.

The new FIFA 20 game will arrive for gamers on September 27, 2019 for PS4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and Windows PCs. See more of the latest FIFA news here.
