As of Friday, February 21, EA Sports revealed the first group for their FIFA 20 Shapeshifters promotion. There were a total of 21 player items released. Headlining Team 1 for the new player items is none other than international football star Lionel Messi. Also in the group with new high-rated cards at unique positions are Ben Yedder, David Luiz, and Marcelo, among others.
Lionel Messi headlines FIFA 20 Shapeshifters Team 1 players
The FIFA 20 Shapeshifters promotion moves players into new positions, gives them a “significant ratings boost,” and also allows for “enhanced squad building options.”
So for example, Lionel Messi typically plays the right-wing spot in the video game. The Barcelona and Argentina superstar’s new 96 overall card has him at the center forward position.
The card brings top skills ratings such as a 98 Dribbling, 95 Shooting, 94 Passing, and 91 Pace. Not pictured on the card are other key skills such as 98 Ball Control, 98 Finishing, 97 Long Shots, and 96 Free Kick.
Messi had a 99 OVR card for Team of the Year. He also received other 96 OVR cards with La Liga POTM and Champions League TOTTGS items. This new Shapeshifters item actually has very small differences on the card’s front skills as he drops one point defensively, but moves up a point on his Physical and Shooting ratings.
In terms of the next-highest overall rated cards, both Marcelo and David Luiz land 91 overall items. Both players are at the CDM spot with the Shapeshifters promotion. Here is a look at the 15 players revealed for the new Shapeshifters Team 1.
As you’ll notice on the cards above, they are extremely difficult to read due to the color scheme. A bit later after gamers from the community complained about that, another tweet arrived in which EA Sports FIFA said they were switching it a white text to make things easier to read. Here’s how that looks and clearly it was a good move on EA’s part.
Other Shapeshifters players released for promotion
There are also a total of seven other players for Team 1 of Shapeshifters which are the Substitutes/Reserves. The first four of these players were also revealed on Friday. They include An 86 overall Hans Hatedboer moving from RM to RB and 86 OVR Renato Sanches going from CM to LB.
In addition to all of the players revealed above, there is also a special Squad Building Challenge to get an 88-rated CAM for Henrikh Mkhitaryan. There’s also a new set of Objectives available to get an 87 OVR Marcos Acuna. The new Acuna item moves him from LW to CM position.
Here is a look at their new Shapeshifters items available in Ultimate Team.
Where to find the new player items in FUT
This first group of FIFA 20 Shapeshifters players (except the SBC and Objective players) is available in packs for a week. They’ll no longer be there next Friday, February 28.
As one would expect, the probabilities are low for pulling these from packs. It starts at under one percent probability in the Gold packs. A Jumbo Rare Players Pack is the most expensive (100,000 FUT or 2,000 EA points) but has the highest probability at 2.7 percent.
The Shapeshifters will also be selling in the Transfer Market. Messi is already seeing prices that range from about 3.8 million to 5 million Coins. Marcel was going for about 1.67 million to 2.4 million Coins. David Luiz card prices had a range of 1.35 million to 2.1 million Coins. All of these were for the PS4 version of the FIFA game.
Upon launching the Ultimate Team mode for the first time after the new promotion, gamers should also receive a free FUT20 Shapeshifter “player pick” pack. Inside are five of these new Shapeshifters that are available in packs. Gamers can choose one of them to test out for a five-game loan on their Ultimate Team.
