EA has started to reveal some of the FIFA 21 features that gamers can expect once the new game arrives in October. Among them will be the inclusion of real-life referees, as at least one has been spotted via in-game footage. Another of the new features will be something seen in other EA games, where there will be Career Mode simulation allowed.
FIFA 21 features real-life refs including Mike Dean
A tweet arrived on Sunday via @FUTDonk indicating that real-life referee Mike Dean has been spotted in FIFA 21 game footage. While it doesn’t appear they’ve confirmed this, it seems there could be official face scans for the real referees, rather than simply the use of their names.
In addition, that tweet says that gamers will have the ability to “instantly stop for a free kick” in a period where the ref has given the advantage.
In soccer, they have the unique Advantage Rule. With that rule or clause, a referee can choose to not call an obvious foul which would stop play if the effect would cause greater harm to the team that got fouled.
As SportBible points out in their report, referee Mike Dean was involved in such a situation during the Tottenham Hotspur vs. Aston Villa matchup. In the clip below, he’s famously seen celebrating the Spurs’ goal on his refereeing decision.
We’ll await further word from EA FIFA’s team in the coming weeks to see which referees made their way into the game as well as for confirmation of the stoppage option.
Career Mode sim option is back again
Much like EA’s Madden, one of the FIFA 21 features will be the ability to simulate a game. This takes place during Career Mode and gives gamers the ability to jump in if they want to take over. That can be helpful if they find their squad in a troublesome situation on the verge of losing.
EA refers to it as Interactive Match Sim on its latest FIFA 21 features notes at the website. With the feature, gamers can also take over during key moments in matches such as penalties and free kicks.
In addition, EA mentioned that gamers can “Monitor match data and make changes directly from the sim based on the match stats and your players’ performance levels and stamina.”

Many members of the community quickly pointed out this isn’t a new aspect when it comes to FIFA 21 features. As Sportbible mentioned, it was part of EA’s FIFA game 14 years ago.
“You managed to bring something into the game that was there 15 years ago. Congrats,” one Twitter user replied.
“Old features coming back and saying they’re new let’s go,” another replied.
“Something that should have stayed in the game…. not a new feature,” said one other Twitter user.
In addition to the above news, we recently learned the new game will bring in 100 FUT Icons, the most so far. Among them will be star player Eric Cantona.
The game’s cover star will be Kylian Mbappe from Paris Saint-Germain. Some fans already believe a curse struck the PSG star for being on the front of the game box. Mbappe got hurt this past Friday in a 1-0 victory against Saint Etienne and is out for three weeks.
The new EA Sports FIFA 21 game arrives on October 9, 2020 for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PC, and Steam.
