Overall, EA’s FIFA 20 game received favorable reviews from critics, but that doesn’t necessarily translate to a positive user review. In fact, Metacritic is showing a super low 1.1 User Score for the PlayStation 4 game compared to a 79 overall from critics. That’s with nearly 2,000 users weighing in on the site. Ouch.
The game introduced VOLTA Football along with developments in Career Mode as some of the new additions, but it wasn’t enough. Career mode was hit by glitches and VOLTA probably isn’t as popular as EA wanted it to be. That means there’s room for improvement with FIFA 21. We’re here to present some ideas that may get gamers invested in what it brings to the virtual pitch.
FIFA 21 Wishlist – Features that could improve the new game
Career Mode club creation – It’s a feature that plenty of gamers would love to have available. This would allow for more customization options when building clubs. It could include options for importing logos or designs into the game. From there, gamers could create their club kits and stadiums to make for a more personalized and unique simulation experience.
Video assistant referees (VAR) – Madden includes challenges for some of the key plays in the game. It’s not always the best and challenges aren’t always available, but it was a good start. FIFA should consider using the VAR system to look at replays for goals that maybe don’t deserve to be counted. It’d be yet another addition to make the simulation more realistic.
Story Mode – In FIFA 17, gamers got to play through a single-player story mode called The Journey. It involved a fictional footballer named Alex Hunter trying to excel in the Premier League. Gamers got to choose his club and position and then progress through a story that included cameos from real footballers including Harry Kane and James Rodriguez. Why not bring back a Story mode for the FIFA 21 game to give more options for modes to play?
Classic Teams & All-Star Teams – It’s something Konami’s Pro Evolution Soccer has but FIFA doesn’t right now. With historical teams, it could give new House Rules challenges for gamers. Those might include playing with historic squads like 2008 Barcelona or 2004 Liverpool. It’s something EA’s Madden has incorporated so why not FIFA?
Dynamic Weather conditions – Changing weather is a part of the game, especially with outdoor stadiums. Having a game start in the late afternoon and then it grows darker as the game turns into nighttime would be pretty nice. Or have rain begin to fall as a game is going on. This would take the simulation up a notch when playing games.
Of course, along with the above items, comes a variety of requests that EA brings back Juventus (Piemonte Calcio in FIFA 20) or adds other leagues and clubs into the game. All of that would take licensing deals and partnerships, so it’s hard to expect a whole lot there. However, EA has to know the fans want more options and hopefully is working on it.
Everyone knows that they won’t add all of the features, clubs, and improvements that the community wants most. However, the above additions could be some new ways to enjoy the game with better simulation and customization. We’ll stay tuned to see what EA brings to the next generation of consoles, with FIFA 21 due out in August or September 2020!
