A week ago, nominees were presented for the FIFA 22 Team of the Year, with the community getting to register their votes. Voting ended just a few days ago and now, the 11 FIFA 22 TOTY players have been revealed. They include the best of the best on the pitch with cover star Kylian Mbappe and former cover star Lionel Messi leading the way. Here’s all you need to know about EA’s unveiling of the official Team of the Year.
FIFA 22 TOTY players revealed in video trailer
Last week, VGR reported on the nominees for EA’s FIFA 22 Team of the Year. With voting concluding a few days ago, EA has now unveiled the winners.
On Thursday, EA released a video on social media featuring international football superstar David Beckham. In the clip, he says “the world made its voice heard” before introducing the FIFA 22 Team of the Year. From there, the card art is revealed for each of the 11 FIFA 22 TOTY players in the final XI.
Paris Saint-Germain star Kylian Mbappe returns to his third consecutive Team of the Year. In the FIFA 22 game, the PSG striker gets a 97 OVR card. However, his PSG teammate Lionel Messi and Bayern Munich’s Robert Lewandowski earn the highest-rated cards.
Messi makes his third starting XI for TOTY in the past four seasons. He was chosen as the 12th man for the FIFA 21 Team of the Year. His 98 OVR item in FIFA 22 will likely feature some impressive attributes once revealed. The same goes for Lewandowski who also received a 98 OVR item.
Also returning for TOTY is Kevin de Bruyne on his fourth-straight starting XI. His item in the FIFA 22 edition is a 96 OVR whereas he had a card rated at 98 OVR in the FIFA 20 TOTY. Many gamers may find his inclusion objectable for TOTY 22 based on his lack of play in 2021.
Check out the reveal trailer video and our full list of TOTY players below:

Team of the Year items coming, 12th man voting
With the reveal of the FIFA 22 TOTY players, each will receive the high-rated items advertised above in the Ultimate Team mode. The scheduled release date for the cards will be 6 p.m. GMT (1 p.m. Eastern Time) on Friday, January 21st in-game.
The player items above will go into packs during different releases. That could include a release of the defenders and goalkeeper, followed by attackers, and so forth. Details should arrive on EA FIFA’s social media on Friday.
In addition, there will be an upcoming vote for the FIFA 22 TOTY 12th man. As mentioned, Lionel Messi was the community pick for last year’s Team of the Year. Nominees for this year’s 12th man are on the way.
Based on a player many gamers are noticing is absent from the FIFA 22 TOTY, Cristiano Ronaldo could be this year’s pick. However, a few other players being mentioned are Mo Salah and Karim Benzema, so they may be amongst eligible choices.
