The first Double Weapon XP Weekend event of the new year is now live, across both Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War and Call of Duty: Warzone. The event comes just one day after the launch of the Mid-Season Update, incentivising players to try out the new content.
The First Double Weapon XP Weekend of 2021
Starting today, the 15th of January, the first Double Weapon XP Weekend of 2021 is due to be live until 10:00 AM on Tuesday the 19th. During this period, players can get double normal weapon XP in both Black Ops Cold War and Warzone. Aside from being the first such event of 2021, there isn’t anything particular to distinguish this event from past “Double XP” weekends… except for its timing, that is.
This particular event is taking place immediately after the launch of the Mid-Season Update; the first major content launch since the start of Season One in Black Ops Cold War and Warzone. Alongside the standard bug-fixes and balance tweaks, the Mid-Season Update introduced several new game modes, a new map, and new Zombies content, among other things. As a result, the Double Weapon XP event is well-timed to give players a good reason to try out the latest content.
The event also happens to coincide with a Free Access Week event, which launched yesterday alongside the update. This Free Access Week is specifically for Black Ops Cold War’s Zombies mode, which is free-to-play for all gamers throughout the next week. Notably, this event includes access to both of the two new major content additions to Zombies which launched with the Mid-Season Update. These are the ‘Cranked’ Zombies mode variant, together with the PlayStation-exclusive Onslaught mode; a new two-player horde mode which pits players against waves of very aggressive zombies on the game’s smaller multiplayer maps.
