More than six months ago, Ubisoft announced a major delay to the release date of Far Cry 6. Originally due to launch on the 18th of February, the game was pushed back to the latter half of 2021. A firm release date still has yet to be announced. However, Ubisoft has now announced that the first Far Cry 6 gameplay reveal will be taking place in just a few days’ time.
The First Far Cry 6 Gameplay Reveal
Far Cry 6 was first announced in early-2020, and scheduled for a release in February of this year. However, due to difficulties caused by COVID-19, the game’s release was pushed back significantly. In the announcement of the delay, Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot stated that; “Those two games [Far Cry 6 & Rainbow Six Quarantine] could have been launched [on schedule] without COVID. For sure.”

Since then, Ubisoft has released very little information about the upcoming game. However, it looks as though that silence is about to end. The studio announced earlier today that the first Far Cry 6 gameplay reveal will be taking place on the 28th of May. The worldwide gameplay reveal is due to begin at 9:30 AM PDT / 6:30 PM CEST via livestream. It is very likely that a new release date – or a release window at the very least – will accompany this reveal. The only confirmation Ubisoft has given thus far is that Far Cry 6’s launch will be no later than March 2022. (Although it is more likely to fall in late-2021.)
An apparent retail leak earlier this year, which came from a Belgian retailer site, has already been proven inaccurate, after it appeared to suggest a release date of April 31st. As we wrote at the time, that leak was always highly dubious. As expected, that date was most likely a mere placeholder or an error. Hopefully, fans can now look forward to a more concrete and official date before the end of the week.
