Last month, Respawn announced a new partnership with Weta Workshop, the special effects and prop company based in New Zealand. In addition to working on films, Weta Workshop also makes ranges of collectible figures, and they are currently working on a line of Apex Legends collectible figures. Now, they have given fans their first look at renders of the first upcoming figure.
Weta Workshop’s Upcoming Line of Apex Legends Collectible Figures
Weta Workshop is, of course, best known for their special effects and prop work on major movies, such as the Lord of the Rings films. However, the company also produces several ranges of collectibles, and the upcoming Apex Legends range will be part of their ‘Mini Epics‘ and ‘Micro Epics’ ranges. These ranges include a wide variety of vinyl figurines from movies, games, and other media. When Weta Workshop’s partnership with Respawn was first announced, they revealed only one piece of concept art. No specific looks or release date were revealed.
Now, the company has given fans a first look at their upcoming Pathfinder figure; the first of the Apex Legends range. Unfortunately, this doesn’t include any actual photographs of the figure. However, it does include computer digital sculptures of the complete figure and its assembly pieces. The reveal shows the three stages of design from concept art to final sculpture. This new reveal doesn’t include a specific release date for the figure, but does confirm that the Pathfinder figure will release later in 2019. More figures will be coming “throughout 2019 and beyond.”
This partnership with Weta Workshop is Respawn’s first merchandising partnership. When the figures do eventually release, they will be the first official Apex Legends merchandise to become available, unless Respawn partners with any other companies between now and then. For now, fans will have to wait for more reveals and news from Weta Workshop.
