Earlier today, Creative Assembly released the “first major” Total War: Three Kingdoms update. Although this is actually the third game update to be released, the previous updates have been considerably smaller. This update will bring the game up to version 1.1.0. The update is currently available in the game’s update beta, and will be launching fully soon. If you’re not already opted into the update beta, you can learn how to do so here.
Patch Notes for the Latest Total War: Three Kingdoms Update
Total War: Three Kingdoms Update 1.1.0 brings increased game stability, AI fixes, behavioural improvements, and plenty more besides. Six different achievements should now trigger correctly, too. When it comes to balancing, five units have gained +20% hit points, while a further seven have +10%, mostly including various bow and crossbow units. Cavalry, including generals, will now deal less collision damage. When it comes to specific characters, He Yi and Huang Shao’s background trait effects have been changed. Meanwhile, Zhang Fei and Zhang Yang’s armour no longer grant fatigue immunity to their retinues.
A whole variety of battle AI improvements are also in this update. Full details are in the official patch notes. AI-controlled generals will no longer idle in range of arrow towers, for instance, while armies awaiting reinforcements won’t sit idle while taking arrow fire. Trebuchet firing behaviour in general should be better now, while AI cavalry are more likely to avoid spear units. Overall, the AI should display greater coordination when moving large groups of units.
Campaign Balance, Vassals and Diplomacy
When it comes to campaign balance, Lu Bu’s cost has been raised, while Dong Zhuo’s Intimidation should now decay a bit slower. Importantly, babies are now more likely to be born from marriages; a problem reported by many players. The campaign has also gotten more than a dozen UI improvements, ensuring correct display for various information and icons. Additionally, a host of changes have been made to Diplomacy. As an additional fix to the recent problem of Yuan Shao vassalising too many factions, factions will now be less likely to vassalise others if they already have several vassals. Additionally, the AI will now account for food output when evaluating regions. This removes an exploit which some players had reported.
