The new NHL 20 video game arrives in mid-September, and that means player ratings are arriving ahead of it. EA Sports recently started revealing some of their NHL 20 player ratings and looks in new screenshots. Along with that have come some funny reactions from NHL stars including Mats Zuccarello and Pierre-Luc Dubois.
First NHL 20 player ratings revealed
We’re getting our first look at NHL 20 player ratings and likenesses for the upcoming hockey game. No NHL 20 cover star ratings yet for Auston Matthews. These are players at the lower end of the ratings spectrum, so to speak. The New York Rangers’ Kaapo Kakko gets an 81 overall while the New Jersey Devils’ Jack Hughes is an 82 for the new game.
But wait, there’s more! Below are screenshots showing off Rasmus Dahlin of the Sabres, Jesperi Kotkaniemi of the Canadiens as well as Gabriel Landeskog and Nazem Kadri of the Avalanche. In addition, each of the players’ official NHL 20 ratings numbers are shown.
So far, an 87 overall Gabriel Landeskog of the Colorado Avalanche leads the way for NHL 20 player ratings. That’s the highest number that EA has shown of all the players. Everyone revealed so far is in the low-to-mid-80s, so the best of the best are clearly coming, possibly next week.
NHL players react to numbers, likenesses
Some of the NHL player ratings in the past few days came via tweets from the players themselves. That included Brendan Gallagher asking the gaming community what they think of his look and number. Most fans are in agreement that he’s underrated and 84 is too low for a player who scored 30 goals for the Canadiens.
We got to see the St. Louis Blues’ Robert Thomas from the back holding up that shiny Stanley Cup Trophy in his player likeness. His rating came in at 80 overall. Thomas joked that they at least got part of his look right.
Mats Zuccarello provided a first look at himself as well. The Minnesota Wild star also had a humorous take on his number, claiming he’s been carrying Mika Zibanejad for the last two to three years on his back. Zuccarello also revealed that Zibanejad has a higher rating, which makes sense.
Another humorous reveal came courtesy of Pierre-Luc Dubois. He likely won the internet by referring to a humorous segment from The Office and including a meme image next to his NHL 20 player ratings reveal. By the way, Dubois checks in with an 85, which isn’t so bad based on what we’ve seen so far.
The new NHL 20 game officially arrives on September 13, 2019, for select consoles. Of course, before that happens, the best player ratings are likely to be revealed. We’re expecting to see some of the players up in the 90s in the coming week so keep an eye out for more NHL 20 news.
