Normally, the patch notes for a new game update are very sterile and straightforward, outlining the changes that are being made and, sometimes, a brief explanation from the developer as to why they’re making them. For the most part, the patch notes for medieval brawler For Honor’s upcoming 1.25 update follow that same straightforward template, with one noticeable exception. A few months ago, the For Honor playerbase lost a dedicated and passionate fan, so Ubisoft decided to immortalize them in a very unique fashion.
About four months ago, Reddit user FatMooche69 posted a heartfelt recounting on the official For Honor subreddit in which he talked about his friend ‘B’ and their mutual love of the game. When For Honor first came out, both FatMooche69 and B were in high school, and two weeks before they were set to graduate B overdosed at a party and later passed away in the hospital. B’s death naturally hit FatMooche69 hard, and through For Honor FatMooche69 found a way to both grieve and pay respects to his lost friendly, mainly be playing as the game’s Raider character (B’s favorite).
Of all the people who took the time to read FatMooche69’s touching story, members of the For Honor development team were clearly among them since, according to the update 1.25 patch notes, the update will be introducing a new Raider bot with the associated ID ‘TheeLizardWizard’ (B’s preferred nickname). It’s a small gesture in the grand scheme of things, but also a fitting one given how much For Honor meant to B and hopefully still means to FatMooche69.
Overall, the 1.25 update doesn’t do a whole lot in terms of gameplay tweaks, but at the very least it pays homage to a dedicated fan who was sadly taken from this world much too early.
