Former Nexon Vice President of Marketing Vlad Coho has basically confirmed just how big of a flop studio Boss Key Productions’ LawBreakers was in 2017. According to Coho, he admits that he “blew millions” on the game while at the game’s publisher Nexon marketing it in 2017 ahead of its release.
The online shooter was, sadly, doomed to fail and eventually resulted in the closure of the entire studio. News of just how big of a flop it was came out recently when former Nexon Vice President of Marketing Vlad Coho announced he was going to give an upcoming talk at the Seattle-based gaming conference DevGAMM titled “LawBreakers: How I Blew Millions Marketing the Biggest Flop of 2017.”
The upcoming talk has been since canceled, though, by Coho. This was out of respect for since closed studio Boss Key Productions. The talk was going to be about Coho’s mistakes and what he learned from his mistakes. It would have had nothing to do with the studio itself and what the developers could have done differently. If/when Coho ever does speak at DevGAMM, he notes that he won’t speak about either Boss Key Productions or Nexon.
Coho also states that “games are a risky, difficult business even when everything goes well, and [Boss Key Productions] did their best.” Unfortunately, that wasn’t enough to make the ill-fated LawBreakers be a success. Though it received pretty positive reviews from critics, it wasn’t able to attract and retain a large enough community to keep going even after becoming free-to-play.
Boss Key Productions followed up LawBreakers with the early access Battle Royale title Radical Heights but it, too, was apparently not enough to keep the studio around. It, sadly, shut down earlier this year. If you’re interested in an exciting upcoming Battle Royale title, check out Egress here.
