Price predictions have been all over the map for the PlayStation 5. Analysts were already unsure how much the console would cost because of its advanced technology. But ever since COVID-19 happened, there has been even more uncertainty. Now, a former Xbox employee named Albert Penello has chimed in with his thoughts regarding the possible price of the PS5. Penello believes it will cost no more than $500.
PS5 Will Cost No More Than $500 According to Penello
Former Xbox employee Albert Penello made the following tweet concerning the price for the PS5:
The text reads, “I believe in the saying ‘never say never.’ But I gotta say never. No way this console is over $499.”
He wrote this in response to rumors that the PlayStation 5 might cost as much as $600. If you look at his LinkedIn profile, you’ll see he spent around 18 years in the marketing department over at Xbox. So, he probably knows what he is talking about. He may not know the specifics of what Sony is juggling firsthand, but he has the general knowledge of console marketing and pricing to have at least some perspective on the matter.
It is important to keep in mind that what Penello says is only hypothetical. He himself points this out when he says ‘never say never.’
We will just have to wait and see what Sony decides to do. Around $500 does seem like a more palatable price point for the console. But there are factors which could conceivably drive price up to closer to $600. So, neither possibility seems like an unreasonable prediction. As you wait to find out the release price for the PS5, be sure and keep up with our latest PlayStation news. We will update you the moment Sony announces how much the PS5 will cost.
