Epic Games has released its latest major content update for Fortnite; update version v5.21. The update is the first content update for Fortnite since the release of v5.20, which added the new Double Barrel Shotgun to the game. Update 5.21 has now added the long-awaited Fortnite Heavy Sniper Rifle. In addition, the update brings two new Limited Time Modes with it.
Fortnite Heavy Sniper Rifle and Other Additions
The latest content update should now have launched across all platforms, including mobile devices. The first and most important new addition is that of the Fortnite Heavy Sniper Rifle; this new weapon is more powerful than any existing sniper rifle in the game. However, it also has a slower rate of fire. The weapon is designed for very long-range combat, but also excels at destroying structures. For instance, a single shot from a Heavy Sniper Rifle has the power to destroy any type of wall. The weapon is likely to have a major effect on the game, especially considering that wall health was changed in a recent balance update.
In addition to the new weapon, Update 5.21 also adds two new Limited Time Modes to Fortnite. These modes are entitled “Soaring 50s” and “Sniper Shootout,” and should be available for around 1 week. The first mode is similar to a standard 50 vs. 50 match, with a major increase to mobility. To be precise, it allows players to re-deploy their Gliders during the game. Plenty of Bounce Pads have been added to the map; allowing players to bounce upwards and then glide around. The second new mode emphasizes long-range combat and also highlights the new weapon; Heavy Sniper Rifles feature prominently. Finally, Update 5.21 adds new weekly Horde Challenges and a few other changes for the game’s Save the World mode. The full patch notes are available online.
