Epic Games is a fickle beast, and if the company decides its followers shouldn’t have something, then it’s off and away with that certain thing. That appears to be what happened with the new refund feature that was introduced with the latest Fortnite update.
The self-service refund feature that was swiftly introduced just today after the update was also removed, without any kind of ETA on when we might be able to expect it to return. So if you were thinking about all the wonderful uses it might have as well as its potential, you might be better served putting that out of your mind for the time being.
You would technically be able to return any purchased cosmetic items for V-bucks within 30 days of purchase if you ended up deciding it wasn’t for you, or for when buyer’s remorse would wash over you and you decided you spent too much money on in-game items.
Epic Games tweeted an update about the removal, stating “Due to an issue discovered with the ‘Self Refund’ feature, we’ll be disabling it until we create a fix and make some usability improvements to the system.”
The refund applied to cosmetic purchases only, including emotes, outfits, gliders, and other various goodies in-game. There’s no telling if a user found some sort of exploit or other greedy way to use the refund system to their advantage, so hopefully whatever happened will be resolved soon and we can get back to using what will ultimately be a useful recourse for mistaken buys and other refund reasons. Unfortunately, we don’t know when a fix is coming just yet, but we’ll update you as soon as we hear something from the big dogs themselves.
