Is it just me, or is Oblivion much harder than Skyrim?
Shagger and one other reacted to StaceyPowers for a topic
@Crazycrab @Shagger Thank you very much for your detailed comments on all of this. The very fact I am going to have to re-read both of your posts multiple times to grok the levelling system tells me how convoluted they made it ... I screwed up levelling in Skyrim on my first playthrough but easily figured out what went wrong and how to fix it next time. And I am now almost positive I have levelled badly so far in Oblivion.2 points -
Do people actually use pick up lines? Since the 90s? People have always approached me with more normal human interaction. Level playing field, nobody playing an active or passive role. That is if I haven't hunted them down first. Muahaha! Pfft. If you want to pick me up, and make it stick for a decade, you have to go death metal. Say "who likes Arch Enemy?" and you'll have me wrapped around your finger! đ (Fortunatelhy my partner of 12 years is a metal head too. Though at the night we met we (somewhat drunkenly) danced to something as soft and romantic as "sweet child of mine" and since he's 15 years older than me, and I was only 21, that song made sense and stuck with us, so I still go all soft and remember that faithful Christmas party 12 years ago when I hear it. That's how we picked each other up.).1 point

Most Annoying NPC
Crazycrab reacted to The Blackangel for a topic
There are a couple NPCâs that absolutely drive me insane. Of the two that stick out in my mind, one is supposed to be beneficial. The other is just enraging by its mere existence. The supposed beneficial one is Odin in FF8. Typically I donât mind him. But when he starts showing up in literally every single fight you get into, then youâre no longer playing the game. Youâre just walking around for a second and the game does everything else. It makes games not worth playing. The other is Kaepora Gaebora. That worthless fucking owl, is enraging to me. Itâs almost impossible to look in a different direction without the bastard interrupting the game. It never even offers anything to help the game. Nothing but inane gossip. Shit that no one needs or wants. It doesnât offer any clues or directions. So what is the god damn point? For this thing, there is none.1 point -
New generation of Consoles not really innovating.
kingpotato reacted to The Blackangel for a topic
Since their beginning as a playing card company, Nintendo has always tried to improve in every way with their systems. True, theyâve had a few serious flops (Virtual Boy) but they always try. Which is more than can be said for most.1 point -

New generation of Consoles not really innovating.
kingpotato reacted to Shagger for a topic
From what I've seen, the next-gen systems will be significantly more powerful, but use pretty much the same kind of tech as before. So in terms of functionality, it will probably be pretty much the same. Maybe that's what he meant. It's possible he did mean graphics as well, and if he did, he might have a point. Graphics are hitting a glass ceiling. It's getting to the point you can increase the power and graphics processing capabilities of a system several times over and make less and less of a difference. The "next gen", at least for Sony and Microsoft, has been about better graphics and little else for too long. There's been very little effort put into innovating how we use consoles or enhancing the gameplay experience. Microsoft didn't sell it well at the announcement of the XBox One, they put too much emphasis on it, but using the console as an entrainment hub to access your TV services as well as games and streaming and control it all through one device was cool idea. PlayStation have PSVR, but VR is really an old idea that we only recently have been able to develop the technology to make it work decently, so I wouldn't call it innovative. Then there's Nintendo. Like them or not, they're the only major gaming hardware manufacturer who actually tries to enhance the gameplay experience rather than just focus on graphics. Some of their experiments work better than others of course, but what matters is that they try each time.1 point -

From what Iâve read and seen online, the only real difference will be the name of the systems. Yes there will be games released that are only playable on that generation. But thereâs so far no real improvement to graphics or processors that Iâve come across in any articles. Look at the PS5. Itâs going to be fully compatible with PS4 games. That should be a red flag to begin with. Reverse play is a good thing, but when thatâs the selling point of a system, instead of other technological improvements, I tend to lose a bit of faith.1 point -

When I read the question @DC asked, my first thought was webmastering languages. Personally, I taught myself HTML when I was 16. I know it extremely well, but I haven't been able to grasp any others. I can manipulate prewritten JavaScript, but can't write my own.1 point -

Canât figure out lockpicking mini-game in Oblivion
StaceyPowers reacted to Crazycrab for a topic
I prefer the lockpicking mechanic in Skyrim but never had that much trouble in Oblivion. In fact it seems expert at it judging by what some people say about their struggles, one of the first things I usually do is loot the lockbox outside the Arena and that's a master lock đ. The mechanic is all about timing, you need to hit the button the instant the pin hits the top of the lock for each one, the harder the lock, more pins you have to secure AND the faster the pins move. What's maybe not so obvious at first is the pins don't respond the same way or retract at the same speed every time, occasionally they will even bounce around that the top and if you try to hit the button then you're guaranteed to fail. There is a trick to this and that's listening, there are audio clues that give you a clue as to what the pin is going to do. Here is a video that explains this better than I can with the written word: With this knowledge and a bit of practice you should get the hang of it. Also look around the barrels and crates in the Imperial City market as you can usually find a few lock picks there and they at least should be on sale in the general stores. If you still can't get the hang of it there are some alternatives, Alteration magic has spells that can open locks and at level 10 you can do the quest at Nocturnal's shrine which rewards you with the Skeleton Key, which is essentially an unbreakable lockpick so you can auto attempt past your way any lock. Hope this helps!1 point -
Games that are harder on console (or PC)?
killamch89 reacted to Crazycrab for a topic
The Sims and most other games with that kind of RTS isometric design are better suited to a PC interface. The experience on console can feel a little cumbersome. In case of Skyrim and similar games (especially from Bethesda) you can use debug consoles and/or mods to bypass certain issues or make the game easier. Beyond those two situations and bad ports aside (like Arkham Knight on PC for instance) I can't really think of any other situation where playing on a PC (or a console) makes the game any easier. For the most part it doesn't make any difference.1 point -

You're in a cabin out in the wilderness for a vacation alone. You wake up and there's a dead body in your house. There's signs of a struggle, but nothing is misplaced. You can't call 911. The power is out and your phone is dead. You're snowed in. You're completely alone with this dead body, and no way out. What do you do?1 point -
