Discord, Skype & Other Chat Platforms
killamch89 reacted to SaucyPastaTho for a topic
Built for gamers mostly, but other people use this software to communicate with friends and family from around the world. Is it getting old? The last major chat company I heard of was skype and it's actually dead but Discord has been on a roll lately except for there most recent "down time." I think discord has the potential to become a thing of the future. What are your thoughts on Discord and other platforms used to talk and communicate with people? Edit: Didn't know weather to put this in the gaming section or not since discord is mainly used for gaming communication but can be used for other things.1 point -
What do you do with your old consoles?
StaceyPowers reacted to The Blackangel for a topic
I tend to think it's better to hang on to your old consoles, even if they become closet ornaments. You never know when you'll get that itch to play an old game that is on an old console. If you didn't hang onto it, then you're gonna lose your mind. I rarely touch any of my PS2, Game Cube, or Wii games. Mainly because I really don't like the systems, but they have a couple good games that I enjoy. So I have kept them, but they're not hooked up anywhere. They're in a box and have been there for years.1 point -

Impeachmeant & WW3 Rumours
Shagger reacted to The Blackangel for a topic
He wanted WW3, and he fought hard to get it. This impeachment has been a long time coming. Even before Putin got him in office. He is a disgrace and nothing more. It has become beyond crystal clear that when he said "Make America Great Again" he was referring to the Great Depression. There have been more mass murders, school shootings, and racially motivated killings in his first three years in office than there were in the previous 30 years if you don't count wars. That's pretty fucking pathetic, and sickening at the same time. But the worst of it is that there are actually people stupid enough to think that Trump has actually done even one good thing. And there is no sense showing them the light. They will just close their eyes, run into a closet with their fingers in their ears and scream "NO! NO! NO! NO! NO!"1 point -
Favorite and least favorite controllers?
The Blackangel reacted to Shagger for a topic
I hated the Duke (Original Xbox), that controller was too large. I have not got small hands, but even I found myself stretching my claws all over it to reach the buttons. Future Xbox controllers kept the layout, but were much easier to wrap your hands around, thank god. Obviously more modern controllers are better, but even with that in mind, I think the DS4 is the best controller I've ever used. It's width, it's refined, it's comfortable, the huge rand of control options it offers, and they're built like APC's. The one problem is the perema-battery. I'm sorry, but XBox have the right idea by giving to option to use rechargeable or regular batteries, and that stupid Micro USB charge port only make it worse. The controller can only live as long as the battery. The DS3 was like that to, but this problem only existed in theory because that controller WOULD break long before that became an issue. Something to consider though is that innovation can be risky. For example, there is a controller that was the first to feature a pause button, a fully analogue control stick, shoulder buttons, a partner console with four control ports instead of two and it is widely regarded to be one of the worst controllers in gaming history. It was so bad, it pretty much killed the console itself. That is the infamous Atari 5200. Atari were always willing to experiment. They made popular interchangeable cartridges, removable controllers, they were the first company to develop a wireless controller as well as the aforementioned attempts to innovate with the 5200, the first company make a handheld in colour and also really moved forward home computers. There experiments didn't always work, but they deserve props foo trying. Great post. Amongst the systems you mentioned that I've used, I have to agree. The SNES controller was very well-designed, although it's innovations like the wide shoulder buttons and it's compact, curved profile seem more like common sense today, back then it was radical. The N64 controller divides opinion even to this day, but I liked it. It suited the console and it suited the games. Starfox 64 (Or as it was known in the great U-of-K "Lylat Wars", for some stupid reason) and Zelda: OOT, felt amazing to play on that controller.1 point -
What do you do with your old consoles?
StaceyPowers reacted to The Blackangel for a topic
It depends if I have duplicates or not. Typically I have more than one of every system, just in case one decides to be an asshole. If I have more than that, then I bundle them together and resell them, or trade them. Otherwise I hang on to them. I've said this before, but at the moment I have somewhere in the neighborhood of 7 PS2's and I think 4 PS3's. As far as Nintendo consoles, I have no clue. Too many to count.1 point -
Favorite and least favorite controllers?

I'm going to go over a few systems, but I'm not including any handheld systems on this, even though several have separate controllers. I'll start with a quick one. PlayStation kept an identical controller from PS1-PS3, so I can't pick one of them over the other, but in the PS realm I have to say that the PS4 controller is the most comfortable. Possibly the most comfortable controller in console gaming. Xbox, I have never been a fan of, but their controllers were always comfortable, and the buttons easy to land the fingers on. Sega Genesis had an interesting controller. It was my first experience with a 3 button setup. The controller fit rather well into the hand, but the button setup I wasn't a fan of. Also I was coming from the Nintendo world, so I was used to a completely different system, even though they shared several game titles. I never really had any kind of interaction with Dreamcast, so I can't comment on its controller. Atari was a good one. They didn't screw around with bells and whistles. A joystick and a button. That was all that was needed, that was all that was made. I liked it then, and I like it now. Colecovision was an odd one. I never fully got what the point of the numerical pad was until I was older and found out that there were cards you could slip onto it that lined up the buttons you could use in your games. Also the rotary dial was entirely unique, and something I personally have never seen on another system. So it gets points for originality. Now the big one. Nintendo. With the NES, it was simple and basic. 2 buttons, a D-pad, and Start/Select. You didn't need any more at the time, so they didn't offer more. I like that. Then SNES comes along. Four new buttons that would be the base for every controller design from then on out. Not only did you have A & B, but now you had X & Y, plus the two shoulder buttons L & R. Very innovative design. N64 changed things up a bit more. They got rid of X & Y, and replaced them with the C buttons and a trigger button (Z button). I was a big fan of the trigger button. I loved how that all worked out. The one thing that never made any real sense to me though was the D-pad on it. There were only a handful of games that had even the slightest bit of need/use for it. So, I'm left wondering why they kept it instead of replacing it with something that there was intent to be used. Game Cube, I absolutely hated. It was extremely uncomfortable, the C button was now more like the joystick on the N64, and the trigger button was in such a messed up spot that it was useless. It was hands down the worst controller design I have ever seen. Wii didn't, in my mind, have a controller. The system was set up so wildly different, that I just look at it as having a goofy Power Glove more or less. So taking all that into consideration, I would have to say that my favorite controller would be the SNES controller, mainly because it introduced us to just how much a video game controller could be capable of. Especially since it was only a 16 bit system.1 point -

I would say Narcos but they made a game and it looks terrible. So I'd have to go with super natural. That show has been around for years I believe it has the potential to be a great video game before they wrap up the series.1 point -

I would like to see a good game based on Die Hard, I know its your common action movie and there is nothing special about it, but I love the first 3 movies and I will be happy to see a game with John McClane. (I know there is a NES game and yes I have played it but its an awful game)1 point -

With the right design concept and execution any story could be told just as good or even better as a video game. I think The Last of Us is the perfect showcase of why. In most aspects it's linear of two characters going on a journey from A to B. It's a setup that we know works fine for a movie or TV Drama but I don't think anybody really expected at the time that the additional element of interactivity could make for not only engaging gameplay but make you relate even more to the characters and get more engrossed in the story than perhaps you ordinarily would. I heard about The Last of Us movie several years ago and the creative director of the game (Neil Druckman) even wrote a screenplay for it but It was put on indefinite hold. To tell the truth I kinda hope it stays that way because I don't think the move could ever really do it justice... and it seems like I'm not the only one: https://screenrant.com/last-of-us-movie-updates-not-happening-good/ By this point the Last of Us Part 2 was already in production (not to mention Uncharted 4) so Druckman put his focus on that instead. So it's unlikely we will be seeing a movie adaptation in the near future. I think another interesting example is Mortal Kombat, after a couple of games came out on home consoles and the Arcade there was a movie adaptation, opinions are divided about it (I liked it personally) but what it did was use the movie format to explain the lore and tell a story far better than the arcade fighter ever could. Then over the years as gaming technology improved they were able to more storytelling elements like cutscenes, and when Netherrealms released Mortal kombat 9 and it told its story even better than the 1995 movie did. Now I hear that there is another movie on the horizon which might raise the bar again! Who knows!1 point -

How much gear are you usually carrying in Skyrim?
StaceyPowers reacted to LadyDay for a topic
I'm a Skyrim hoarder too! In the very beginning, until I get a house for storage and a companion to carry shit I tend to have a full inventory and then drop the least important/heaviest whenever I fill up completely. Come to think of it I almost always do that, since I bring the valuable loot I can carry. I usually have the set of armor I'm wearing, two dual hand weapons (I tend to specialize in two hand weapons, so I have the one I use and a backup), a bow and arrows, magic robes, jewelry for enhancing various things, all the healing potions and lock picks I've found and some magica potions. Then there are the things I carry until I can use or store it, like stuff I've picked up for selling when I need money, ore when I've just mined, dragon bones and scales when I've just slain a dragon (to use for dragon armor). Sometimes I also have two one hand weapons, for dual wielding, or one and a shield (not sure why I bring these things, I almost never need them). On top of that I carry the most valuable loot, to sell or store for later use. My houses tend to hold a lot of stuff!1 point -
