  1. I believe it is because both need differently designed combat. What works in third person doesn't in first and vica versa. Skyrim might have a third person view, but it's only for vanity. Actually playing the game like that is god awful imo. I wish more games had that option too, but not to play them, just to be able to look at your character from the outside. Some games have photo mode as an alternative, like Cyberpunk 2077, where you can't play in third person, but at least can view your character from another perspective.

  2. Are there any old FPS games/franchises you think should be rebooted? I was thinking for example of the old Hexen/Heretic games, but I believe the rights for those are under dispute.

  5. I am a big fan of this game, and it made me question my assumptions about how I think.

  6. This is a tough one but I do remember a game that really had a unique story with a philosophical question of how far you'd go to complete your "mission". The game in particular I'm talking about is Spec Ops: the line for the PS3. You play as Walker, a soldier in charge of a team sent to Dubai to complete a mission. However, as the story starts to unravel, you realize something is quite off and when it gets to the end and you realized that the person you were blaming for this situation was already dead and you were the one that really killed thousands of innocent lives. The game gives you the option to kill yourself once you know the truth, live on and continue the lie or live on accepting the truth of what you've done. The scene where he accidentally kills a bunch of refugees he was sent to save with phosphorous was the first time I ever somewhat felt any kind of remorse for an action in a game.

  7. I have my own safe at the bank full of liquid gold. If the economy tanks I've got something to liquidate.

  8. Actually, from what I've seen, it's quite disorientating especially without mods. There are several videos on YouTube that highlight this fact.

  10. To be honest, I've done that with a few characters myself...for a couple of minute until I get bored and start running again. It's so tedious lol.

  11. I very much like the idea of summoning, but I've seen it done poorly and incredibly well over the years. In games such as The Elder Scrolls summoning is done mostly well, because on the one hand you're typically limited to a single summon, but on the other hand your magical power is limited by mana rather than cooldowns. In games like World of Warcraft, Demonology-specialised Warlocks can periodically summon up to 12 Wild Imps in addition to four other creatures to control, but a lot of these are limited by cooldowns rather than resource management. Other WoW classes can summon pets and minions but they're glorified damage-over-time spells thanks to the lack of maintainance required with them (see the Happiness removal for Hunter pets in Mists of Pandaria). Gothic is one of the few games that gets summoning right: you're limited only by how much mana and processing power your computer has. You can summon virtually infinite hordes of skeletons and destroy any semblence of balance with magic. That's what I call wizardry, none of your sterilised 'balance' malarky.

  12. Honestly every time I've pre-ordered a game and received something (whether it's a code for some downloadable content or otherwise) - it's never made me sit back and think "Yes, that was worth it". I don't really care for the micro-transaction culture anyway and all the fashionista things of buying skins/outfits/etc. so I just generally don't care lol. Like M76 says above me, the only real benefit I suppose is ensuring you actually have the game in your hands on/near release date, the only good thing I can think off anyway!

    Skate City

It looks okay so far but I agree with you about the camera angle. On another note, I also like the cell-shaded graphics - now don't get me wrong, I've seen some horrible implementations but this one is well done.

  15. I have built several characters in Skyrim and Oblivion with summoning and with mods, you can get a pretty functional build that actually works and is fun to play. I also love summoning the GFs in Final Fantasy 8 except they can't follow you around and only release their attack and then disappear. I prefer the summoning mechanics of the Final Fantasy 7 remake where they appear and actually help you out in combat before doing their Special attack after a period of time. Bahamut is always my favorite.

  17. I think many games stay away from 3rd person because once you open that door, then fans will criticize for not having cool gear or even character build. It could also take away from their intended effect in horror games switching from 1st to 3rd. What doesn't make sense to me is games that are 1st person has you customize gear and character at the beginning, or even throughout, and never even see it because you are in 1st person.

  18. I love how japanese people celebrate their local brands. Nintendo, pokekon etc and they seem to be pretty good with the promotion through various events too. So I kind of like it.

  19. Honestly even Paragon and Renegade responses seem like variations on a theme to me. But I have a very minimalist concept of identity--like I only define myself by a few core traits, and the rest is just variable expressions. Like, identity = blocks in a kaleidoscope, and the patterns are just expressions. So that probably is why I see it differently.

    Walking in games

It's not that I hate walking. I hate walking as a means to get around. I feel like I'm wasting time. So I always go by car or bicycle everywhere. I hate public transport for the same reason, the wait for connections kills me. Combined with my strong dislike of big crowds I often can't even get on the first bus if there are too many people on it.

  21. I think that is the beauty of that game too. by making it hard it has created a different community of it's own too.
