Have you ever quit playing a game for someone else’s sake?

What purposes can games serve?

For some they give a person's life meaning. People like myself for example. I can't play any sports. I can't go for a walk. I can't wrestle with my dog. I am stuck in a god damn chair. The most value I have is to eat, sleep, and shit. Games give me something I actually can do, and sometimes something I can succeed at. They occupy my mind, eyes, ears, and hands. If I don't have something that occupies all 4 of those I get extremely antsy, which tends to lead to panic attacks. All because there's nothing much else that I can do. If it wasn't for games, I most likely would have shot myself by now since my diagnosis. Games are a life saver.2 points -
Characters that exist in video games but can't be seen

The only thing nearby that has anything is the abandoned watch tower, and Fairvale Shanty. The good thing about FV is that you can loot it as many times as you want. It always has a gold nugget, platinum watch, and platinum earrings. usually earrings. Sometimes it switches it around, but the watch and nugget are always there. You only have to ride a certain distance from it for it to reload. It's not too terribly far. But it's often got a damn grizzly bear hanging out there, so approach with caution.1 point -
Most philosophical videogames?

Off the top of my head, Spec Ops The Line, INSIDE, Bioshock and Silent Hill 2 are some of the most philosophical, heady and thought-provoking games I've ever played.1 point -

Spec Ops: The Line does show the fallacy of Walker who in a desperate attempt to "save" Konrad, killed the refugees he was supposed to save along with a ton of other innocent people. When he finds Konrad's decomposed body and realizes that he was the cause of everything in Dubai, the first thing Walker says is " I never meant to hurt anyone." By the end of the game, you realize that Walker is broken man and will have to live with what he did for the rest of his life.1 point -
What purposes can games serve?

Games can be used as a means of developing coordination skills and can also provide a way to take your mind off the real world. Or in my case, it helps me to think - Seriously, some of the best solutions I had to issues in my life was thinking about it while gaming.1 point -
It depends on how far I actually went into it. If I went far into the game, then it's on me. It had my attention and interest in the beginning. If it is in a genre that I'm a huge fan of, like fantasy, and the game just sucked in my opinion then it's still on me. Witcher 3 is like that. I didn't like it, but that doesn't mean the developers are to blame for my personal taste.1 point

Killing Francis Mcreay in GTA 4, at first, i thought killing him would be the right decision, because he threatened me to leak lot of crimes i did, and i had the choice to either kill him or his brother Gerald, i killed him because i thought he would threaten me even more, but i was wrong... coz he had unique features when his brother was just useless....1 point

Tropico 4 was quite philosophical, come to think of it. While the game doesn't particularly favour any one political or social ideology, parodying them all, Tropico does show you how the road to Hell is paved with good intentions. I eventually stopped caring about more costly green energy and free, high quality housing for all, devoting more to military budgeting, exports and expecting greater production from my citizens. And though it is just a video game, I can easily understand how someone in a position like El Presidente's can have the best laid plans only to be undermined by the numerous factions and voting blocs they have to contend with and satisfy. Another game is Tyranny, which is the first game I played that did evil competently. The pitch is "in the war for good and evil, evil is winning", and you're on the side of evil. Except it's not evil, it's order taken to its logical conclusion against basic freedoms and rights. In typical Obsidian fashion it goes into no plan of action surviving contact with the enemy, internal politicking, regulations and so many other things. It's very much like another game I'd like to mention, but is more political than philosophical, which is Fallout: New Vegas, where every faction has inherent flaws that prevent them from gaining anything but pyrrhic victories. And finally, off the top of my head, World of Warcraft. No thanks to Blizzard trying to make every line of dialogue a soundbite, but there's some really good nuggets of debate to be found in the subject of honour, judgement, the food chain and what we don't know about what we don't know. Currently I'm trying to figure out who the mysterious Arbiter character is, and what gives them the right to decide which souls go to 'Heaven' and which ones go to the Hellish Maw? If they pre-date the Titans, the 'gods' of the Warcraft universe then.... what were they an arbiter of? I'd like to say time will tell but I've long given up hope that Blizzard will satisfyingly tie up any loose ends.1 point -
Inside, the game has lot of deep meanings that aren't easy to understand, there are lot of theories behind the main story of the game, but there are no official ones coming from the devs themselves1 point
