  1. Eh, that movie kinda sucked, but I see they did a lot of things right. A lot of Easter eggs and such. The director is clearly a fan of the series, just not a very good director. Also that CGI, yikes. As for the casting, who gives a shit about their skin color or their ethnicity. The only issues I had with the cast were how lame Leon was and how Wesker didn't look or feel like Wesker at all.

  2. In a bizarre blunder for an even more bizarre promotion, Halo Infinite fans were left disappointed by getting a Forza Horizon 5 livery instead of a Spartan Skin for Halo Infinite with promotional packs of nail polish. That's right, nail polish (PC gamer article on the original promotion). For reasons that escape me, Microsoft partnered with the cosmetics company OPI to offer a Spartan Skin for Halo Infinite and a Forza Horizon 5 Livery with promotional pacts of OPI nail polish, both pictured below (To be fair, they do look pretty sweet). The blunder was caused by the terms of claiming the in-game items not being fully explained by neither Xbox, nor OPI. You see, the Halo skin was only redeemable though purchases off of a select line of OPI nail polishes with names like “You Had Me At Halo,” “Can’t CTRL Me,” and “N00berry” (Somebody had to write those...) costing around $20 made through Amazon, whereas the Forza livery was only redeemable at the beauty and salon supplier Ulta, again at around $20. So, depending what in-game item you wanted, you had to shop at the correct place. Like I said, this was not make clear in terms and conditions at first. The conditions have since been updated to clarify this, but not changed. And if you wanted both, that's two purchases of the same thing. To add insult to double purchase poverty, the Halo Skin isn't even in the game yet and doesn't launch until March 1st, so even those people who did get the skin will have to wait. The article I read from PC Gamer that sites an original article from Kotaku can be found in those hyperlinks. Whether you consider this promotion to be something interesting and a progressive breath of fresh air, or an awkward, overly affectionate, mis-matched couple in public (and good for you if you can, because I honestly can't decide which), either way these people did not deserve to be deceived like this. Part of me feels that OPI and XBox were deliberately vague to capitalise on the very inevitable mistake people would make by buying thier nail polish from the wrong place. There's no way companies like this just "forget" to make things like that clear. Even if it was a genuine error, why is it necessary to buy from both Amazon and and Ulta to get both skins anyway? When someone like Monster Energy dose a COD promotion, you don't need to buy your promotional Monster Energy cans from a specific supermarket, so why was this necessary here? The right thing to do is allow people to claim both skins for both games regardless of where the nail polish was bought from. Many jokes can and probably will be made about this partnership I'm sure, but the insidious way this was done is no laughing matter and both companies should be ashamed of themselves. Even though how scummy this was is the most important thing about this story, I just can't wrap my head around how this even came to be in the first place. I know I'm not not exactly "in the biz", but I feel it would take some bravery to show to investors a plan to market make-up and personal cosmetics to gamers. Am I really old fashioned, or does that not make sense? Still, once you have done this; ... feel free to comment and offer your thoughts.

  3. I've bought Mass Effect Legendary Edition and so thusly jumping into this iconic franchise for the first time. I don't really know why I've never played this game until now, it just sort of passed me by. I don't really regret that though because this new version offers some superb value with the original trilogy and all of thier combined DLC content in one convenient package. Shows that even EA can get shit right on occasion, but the fact there is 40 DLC's across these three games in the first place does bring me back to reality somewhat 😆. Still, really enjoyed the first few hours so far, although navigating the Citadel (if I'm getting that right) is a bit of a pain. What do you think of this version of the game, what hints and tip can you offer and what do you think of the franchise in general?

  4. Thank you both! It shouldn't matter in the least how much pigment is in a persons skin, with exception of certain roles as @Shagger has already mentioned. You can't cast Samuel L. Jackson or Denzel Washington as rich plantation owners with 200 slaves circa 1835. That's not going to work. So in some instances, you need to pay due respect to the ethnicity and heritage of the actor to portray the role correctly and accurately. But for everything else, it simply DOES. NOT. MATTER. If their ethnicity matters in an non ethnic role, then why not throw their sexuality and gender identity into the mix as well? Why? BECAUSE IT DOESN'T FUCKING MATTER.

  5. That's fair. But what I'm saying is I wouldn't want to choose one or the other. In this case I'd want both. But if I had to choose, it think gaming is more important to me, but I still love my music.

  7. Just for clarities sake, here's an image of the actress in question: That comment bothers me for two reasons The actor (Hannah John Kamen) is English and daughter to a Nigerian father and Norwegian mother. She's not Hispanic. All it took is a quick internet search. Why should an actor's ethnicity matter in this circumstance anyway? I haven't seen the movie (and most likely won't given it's mediocre review scores) so I can't comment, but isn't his/her performance more important? If the actor in question delivers, that's what matters. I'm not a fan of what's often referred to as "white-washing" (although in this case it's more "darker-skinned washing", that's why I don't really like the term), that being changing a characters ethnicity without reason, but it really shouldn't matter in this case as Jill doesn't have to be pure white for the character to work in the plot. You can't, for example, cast Samuel L. Jackson as colonial slave owner or Ryan Reynolds as a Tibetan monk, that just wouldn't work, but in this instance I don't see why it should matter.

  11. The most historically accurate were probably the cold war era games that I've played. Obviously the individual stories are fictional, but a fictional story can either fit into history, or contradict it. I think COD Black Ops was pretty good in this regard, also Vietcong is a good depiction of the Vietnam war, down to tactics and the details of warfare. Ghost Recon Wildlands while not historic but seems pretty accurate in its depiction of South American cocaleros, the culture, the architecture and the environment. But overall I play much more fantasy and science fiction games that are only loosely based on real settings. For example I consider Assassin's Creed a fantasy game, as a historical period piece it would be terrible.

  12. Agreed. But if we have to give specific titles, then I would say just about any Zelda game, FF8, or Castlevania. Something that I have played the hell out of, and know backwards and forwards, inside and out.

  13. I always thought that if I was to become a mother (never wanted to) that my kids would be allowed to play video games, but there's a bit of a difference. They would begin by playing old systems like the Atari 2600 and NES. They wouldn't start out with the newest and boldest console of the day. They would have to earn newer systems over time. That way they would learn to appreciate what they had and it would help them become better people, instead of having a sense of entitlement that so many have given themselves today. If you earn everything you have, you appreciate it more. For example, my first car was a rusted out Oldsmobile, with a drivers side window that didn't roll down. Half the time I had to keep the hood tied down with a shoe lace. When I got rid of it, I got a Chevy S-10. I loved that truck. It was awesome as hell to me. I didn't start with the best, I had to earn it. Which made it mean all that much more to me.

  14. How is it inferior? If you're talking about the technical side of things, I wouldn't go so far as to call it inferior. Maybe a little slower, but it's still lightning fast. It can hold its own against anything Sony or Microsoft put out to challenge Nintendo. If we're using terms like "superior" and "inferior" then going by my own unbiased experience, the Switch is superior to the Xbox Series S. We have both, and the Switch outperforms the Xbox every time we play them.

  15. Often, I don't think it's the movie in and of itself, but maybe a certain part instead. Like say someone has a fear of clowns. In the movie IT, when Pennywise pops his head up in the sewer, it made a lot of people almost shit their pants. Also when The Exorcist came out, a lot of people fled the theatre in terror. Even the girl who played Reagan wasn't allowed to see the movie until she was 17. For me the movie was Dead Silence, but only one part. It was in the motel when Mary Shaw suddenly appeared in the chair. It hit me hard and sent me into a panic attack. The rest of the movie was nothing big, but that one part hit me.

  18. Game addiction is a real thing. I know some kids who need to take long breaks from gaming. My nephew is probably one of them. Every time he comes over to my house, he steals my PC and plays for hours. I've been cutting him off after an hour or two.

  19. The music accompanies the game. For example. Rdr1 has some of the best western music. During serious gun fights, you'd hear the score pop in. And it's so damn good. It really hypes you up, as you hear this score blaring as bullets are whizzing past you, npcs are yelling, horses crashing into one another. It really heightens the game and can make you experience so much more than if you had it without the music. Like listen to this song and tell me it doesn't add to the game or something?

  25. I think the only thing I can remember, wasn't in an MMO game, but maybe when I played gamed like Yahoo checkers, pool and other games. And I would encounter people who would forfeit a game or leave it up on their move and never finish the match. That was annoying.

  26. 1. Lack of quest marking. Weirdly, I don't remember getting lost much in the first game, but I got lost a ton in the third because it didn't always tell me what system to go to. I think in 2/3, you can push a button to tell you what direction to go in real-time in an area, but I don't recall if that was implemented in 1? I WILL mention a warning here that I think mostly applied to 2/3, which is that you should get in a habit of doing side quests and such when they become available before doing main quests, as otherwise they can sometiems get disabled by your progress. 2. Difficulty spikes ME and DA are both terrible with this. Thus the casual mode for me. 3. Vehicle Awkward on console too, but manageable. Honestly, I got in a habit of either 1-sitting still at a vast distance and shooting when possible (works better in 2/3), and 2-just running over enemies. I like the vehicle in the second game much better, but I don't know how the controls will translate to PC. But it is less cumbersome in how it moves.

  27. I'm glad you asked, because I'm having some trouble with this game: Lack of quest marking. I can use the menu to look at quest information, but can't mark it on the navigation map of the ship nor on the personal radar. Why have these systems when they can't be a marker to tell you where to go? This is really annoying as the quests, including the main story, cannot be marked accurately. All you have is the navigation on the ship and the descriptions in the details, with no real makers, just a vague description on what system you are in. It's bullshit. Difficulty Spikes. I've never seen an imbalance in difficulty like this since Dragon's Dogma. You move through an area, it's simple, then there's a point, and then it's impossible to survive. The games autosave feature lets you start right at the latest checkpoint on that level, but it's pointless because the last actual save would likely be well before this. It could be the lack of quest marking indicated, but it was not made clear as there is not level nicator for aa mission. Maybe I was levelled to low, but I had now way to tell. If I was not levelled high enough, but we can't be sure, but it's cryptic as hell. Even trying to hot go into a mission outside the main story was difficult. The vehicle drives like shit (This is based on PC controls). It's directional input is dictated the position of the mouse AND with WASD. This sounds OK in theory, but is very difficult to mange in combat. You want the vehicle to keep moving forward, but you have to turn the turret in combat. In Mass Effect, at least on PC, this means using the mouse, but this interrupts the control of direction on the keyboard. So as you turn left, you have to awkwardly and gradually start pressing A or D depending which direction you're turning to make the turn smoothly. Given that the M/K keyboard is a digital set up, this is difficult to control I sill love this opportunity to play this game, but any help the VGR community can offer, please offer it.
