What are your hobbies?

Not only will I state categorically that gaming is not for kids alone, I can even prove it. And that's not me being a 30-somthing grown man trying to justify what some might regard as a juvenile hobby, I promise. This is about the facts. Back in th 70's and 80's, gaming was very much a kid's pastime. Games were only made for and marketed to children, whether it be in the booming arcades or on the early home consoles like the Atari 2600, Intellevision, Colecovision, various Pong Consoles and Vectrex consoles. Think and say what you will about the games, there were obviously primitive, but there were kids toys. Even some of the big names in gaming like Nintendo were toy makers first and that was thier pull into the video game's industry. So yes, games were toys. But then in the 90's things started to change. As games became more ambitious and detailed, the line between action and violence started to get blurry. Games like Mortal Kombat and Carmageddon caused controversies with thier violence and detailed gore. Parents were angry that toys like this were allowed on the market, because face it they were toys, so to me they actually had a point. Something had to change. Video Games needed regulation. It wasn't long after this that things like these started to appear on game game boxes. The moment this started to happen, video games were not toys anymore. The are rated with the same scrutiny as movies and TV broadcasts, making them an entertainment medium. Like any entertainment medium, any work that within it is made for a target audience. They can be made for very young children, but they can also be made only for adults and everyone in between. So for me, it's not even open to debate. Video games are not kid's toys. If they were, there wouldn't be any of these ratings and warning labels. Organizations like the ESRB and PEGI wouldn't even exist. The fact that they exist and enforce these rating systems is actually what has allowed video games to evolve into the entertainment medium they are now. An entertainment medium that can, and does, cater to adults as much as anyone else. Yes, organizations like the ESRB and PEGI aren't prefect, but we should all be grateful that they exist. Without them and the systems they enforce, video games probably still would be toys and games like The Last of Us, Metal Gear Solid, Grand Theft Auto, Assassin's Creed, The Witcher, The Elder Scrolls just to name few would not have been allowed to exist.2 points

Things you hate about your favorite games
kingpotato reacted to Yaramaki for a topic
Lol skyrim man i always hated how easy the dragons were to kill, on the default difficulty if you're leveled up a bit you can kill them in a couple of blows. Also when i think back of it, most missions were about clearing either a cave/castle/tomb and kill everithing inside it, rinse and repeat. ->Breath of the wild : while a classic no doubt, breakable weapons and shields always annoyed the fuck out of me. ->Pokemon games i always found a little too easy, should have an option to make it more difficult -> and on the contrary Dark souls games should have the option of a more easier mode for gamers who just want to experience the game and the world, without having to go trough endless frustration because you can't beat an area. ->in most open world game the car physics feel way too off, like why does the car behave like you're driving on ice.1 point -
It is Gameloft so it's going to be eye candy thrown on top of the most generic game and then they throw in a ton of ads and in app purchases.1 point

Voice acting goes hand in hand with the script. Good delivery can't salvage a poor script and vice-versa. But games that have memorable dialogue and strong delivery - I'm thinking Psychonauts here - leave a HUGE lasting impression on me.1 point

Annoying enemies in gaming?

Malboros are worse imo. They can just one shot your entire team at the first turn in battle(before you can even try to escape) with stone breath or bad breath. Whoever put it in FFX is a sadist.1 point -
Your favourite racing game series of all - time?
Family sedan reacted to m76 for a topic
Because it had basically no single player content at release, and it was specifically made with esports in mind, nothing else. So fans of the classic series were hung out to dry.1 point -

Just realized I fucked up in my previous post. It's been 9 years since GTA5 was released, not 12. Not sure where I got the 12 from. Judging from the time of the post says it was made, I must have been half asleep when I made it.1 point -

No wonder it's my friend's favorite game currently on his new Playstation 5. I have watched him get in the gunplay and I must admit that's very impressive.1 point -
Looking at the classroom and the webpage, everything about it looks like an expensive meme. The chairs are just about the only thing that make this look believable; comfortable, breathable, and encourage good posture. The Razer headsets, the vastly overspec'd PCs (part of eSport entry appeal is the low-spec requirements?), and neon-glitchy aesthetic makes me think they've wasted a lot of money. On the one hand I hope the school can get its money back for all this expensive equipment, and on the other hand I don't particularly want them to if their students get burned by not being good enough. The only hope I have is that they're encouraging good conduct, like healthy lifestyle choices, physical and mental checkups and work-life balance. There is also the fact that this may prepare them for careers elsewhere in games design, rather than just playing for cash prizes.1 point

Do you think gaming is for kids alone?
Heatman reacted to Withywarlock for a topic
On the contrary, I think it's becoming less suitable what with more easily accessible (read: predatory) means of getting money from children and young audiences. Adults are of course susceptible to these things (see gambling, among other vices), but children are far more susceptible to the tricks that seperate them from their pocket/parents' money. If one day my partner and I do decide to have kids, I'd introduce them firstly to older systems and games that lacked this sort of stuff. Call it totalitarian, draconian or heavens forbid gatekeeping, but I'll gleefully take that if it means protecting my potential children from the practices that no longer appall in today's gaming landscape.1 point -
Do you play video games together with your children/relatives?
williamserna reacted to Heatman for a topic
I had that problem when I was still a teenager. I had a serious difficulty with accepting that I failed because I was obsessed with winning.1 point -
I usually do it balanced, do one main quest mission then do a few sidequests. I usually tie up everything else before finishing the main quest, I don't really get people who focus on just one or the other, doing every side mission before even starting the main quest. Or only doing the main quest line while ignoring everything else.1 point

For the greatest immersion, games should do any with 90% of collecting items. That way you can focus on other things and not go into a room and run in circles looking for items to pick up. It's just an annoying distraction, especially in horror games where you are supposed to focus on suspense building. I don't know how many times I catch the shit end of something spooky because I was looking for loot. Also having good AI throughout is definitely a huge factor in immersion.1 point

Fortnite x Assassins Creed Collaboration
Withywarlock reacted to Kane99 for a topic
Fortnite collabs with just about everyone. I said this before, but I view Fortnite as the funko pop of video games. Funko pop has a slew of licenses for all kinds of brands, I mean they got Batman, Spider-Man, and pretty much everyone else. Fortnite has skins for Batman, Uncharted, Spider-Man, Avengers, and so on. They are cool with mixing and matching brands.1 point -

I dont have many but mine are: - Videogames of course - Drawing, Im not that good but I have been drawing since middle school, I make some doodles or draw some character ideas at least once a day - I love to watch history videos on Youtube, I used to watch the history channel when it was about history. As well some of my drawing ideas come from past events like wars or stuff like that. - I read a lot of Manga, like a lot ๐, Right now Im following 17 ongoing Mangas according to my bookmarks, the number tends to increase or decrease. And during the day I usually just scroll around my favorite webpage for mangas looking for something new. I try to read a little bit of everything my favorites are Action, horror/suspense and romantic comedies.1 point -

Writing. I've finished 2 full length novels, several short stories, and a hell of a lot of unconventional poetry. Weaving. I build my own looms of different sizes and create a lot of things. Playing the aulos. I'm good at it and can come up with some good music. Creating YouTube videos. Studying astronomy. I'm absolutely fascinated by it. My favorite planet within our solar system is Uranus. My favorite exoplanet is 55 Cancri e. That one is truly fascinating. But, HD 81817 b is unbelievable in its own right. I'm a hockey nut. My team is the Detroit Red Wings. Win or lose, I'll never abandon them. Collecting. I collect skulls and Zippos. I have so many skulls, that I've run out of places to put them. I have a few other minor things, but they're nothing big.1 point -
I agree that schools need to be more career oriented and need to teach the quest for knowledge instead of hammering in useless facts that make every kid miserable. But at the same time I don't think esports should be viewed as a career opportunity. Esports is a recreational activity, making careers out of it is not economically viable. I mean you never hear of "football high school" sports are always a side activity at schools and not the main focus. Everyone needs something to fall back on after their sports career is over, be it actual athleticism or esports.1 point

Most evil characters in video games?
Ryan Blake reacted to killamch89 for a topic
So true! Heihachi killing his son and throwing him off a cliff into lava is pretty darn evil in my books. I also think that Molag Bal from Elder Scrolls is one of the wickedest bastards I can remember in a video game.0 points -
