Do you sit through video game credits?
Dannyjax reacted to Withywarlock for a topic
Only for Let's Play and that's more for achival/historical purposes than anything. I particularly like pointing out when someone whose name I share pops up in the Crash Bandicoot 'Special Thanks' bit; my parents didn't believe me when I told them. Speaking of which, the Crash Bandicoot games on Game Boy Advance had a nasty habit of re-rolling the credits seamlessly, so you could be sat through them multiple times if you weren't paying attention. If I sit through credits when I'm not filming, it's usually to see if there's a certain game director, voice actor, engine involved, or if there's an achievement for doing so. Otherwise, I don't bother.1 point -
Which turn based RPG should I play
Boblee reacted to Withywarlock for a topic
There's only 10 votes and 7 choices so I'm not surprised there's no support for it. Not to mention it's the newest of the lot as far as I can tell, the others all having developed renown over more than a decade. In the context of this list, I imagine any pre-3D Final Fantasy would've seen more votes than Bravely Default, because it's my understanding that's just what it is. That's just my guess though; CRPGs are more my thing. ๐1 point -
Resident Evil 4 (Remake) [OT]
killamch89 reacted to Withywarlock for a topic
There's not much I can say about this, especially given the trailer: it's more REmakes. I imagine it's a Marmite thing, either you love 'em or you hate 'em, and maybe people are just waiting for the right game so... good for those who wanted to play RE4? I'd like to give these a try. If I enjoy Resident Evil 2's remakes, I think I'd enjoy this one just as much.1 point -
Do you like playing Games alone or with friends?
Withywarlock reacted to Jasmin for a topic
Gaming is not only about being in a mood to plat, gaming is also about whether you have energy to play. When you are very tired, you will not be able to play the game.1 point -
Who do you admire in the gaming industry?
kingpotato reacted to Shagger for a topic
Exactly. He accepted a pittance for the licence because he had no faith the game adaptation would be successful. Before the games, hardly anyone outside of Poland had even heard about the novels. Now, "The Witcher" is a household name that even spawned a TV show. His books sold hundreds of thousands, maybe even millions of copies that would never have sold if it wasn't for the games booting the franchise's popularity. And how does he thank CDPR? By suing them! If he had even a shred of respect for video games as a medium and the fans, his fans, who play them, he wouldn't have been in that situation. I don't care how good his work is, the man is a dick and he has nobody to blame for loosing out on the game's success other then himself. It's a shame CDPR had to reach a settlement with him, he didn't deserve any more money.1 point -
Who do you admire in the gaming industry?
Shagger reacted to kingpotato for a topic
Well Andrzej Sapkowski had nothing to do with the game itself other than selling the licence of his books to CD project. In fact Andrzej Sapkowski never really cared about videogame about his game, he though it was going to fail, and when the game did succed he sue CD Project for more money. I agree with @Shagger I dont understand how you all make statements as to how you admire George RR Martin and regard him as a videogame visionary when the guy barely even plays videogames and his role on Elden Ring was actually only a small part in the story and design, actually most of the material that GRRM provided for Elden Ring was modified or changed. How can many of the members here claim to admire these two writters George R.R Martin and Andrzej Sapkowski for their roles in the videogame industry when they litteraly only had a small part in it ?? How can you admire someone for being a videogame icon and not know their actual role in the videogame industry??? If someone has to be admire it has to be the developers like on Elden ring for example all credit should go to Hidetaka Miyazaki, he was the Director and the actual writer for the game. And as for The Witcher 3 all credit should go to CD project, not Andrzej Sapkowski. EDIT: Now that I remember there was also another Thread about George RR Martin's love for videogames that somehow spawned multiple pages of comments, when the guy barely even plays videogames.1 point -

Head_Hunter reacted to Yaramaki for a topic
Haha damn sounds like something a woman would ask me on a first date. I'm 36 years young, what about you, i've always wondered where you are from @Head_Hunter why don't you open up a thread so i can ask it ๐? I woulden't mind telling how much i earn in a month but i don't think it would be wise to tell that on a public forum.1 point -
There's one thing I don't tell anyone ever in my life and that's how much I make or earn. Not even my woman knows that ๐.1 point

What do you do when you encounter a game-breaking bug with no simple workaround?
Family sedan reacted to Aniekwe for a topic
The same thing is apparently applicable with me in my constant playing of GTA 4 when I still have GTA 5 to play. I can't get over playing GTA 4.1 point -

Family sedan reacted to Heatman for a topic
Some games hit you in a way that you can't let them go no matter how many times you have played them. You will see yourself still coming back to it.1 point -
Thanks for the response mate. It's the last part that got me cracking so hard with laughter and I understand that feeling so well because why would they all have an agenda against only you ๐, that can be a pain. About losing on FIFA, it's why I never go for a revenge the same day I lost. Why is that? It's cos I would be under a lot of pressure and as such, I wouldn't be calm in play to get the better of my opponent.1 point

Definitely 40. I don't want to have kids but if I did, i'd want to at least live the better part of my life first.1 point -
Would you rather make your child learn more languages or more moral values?

Withywarlock reacted to Empire for a topic
The only credits I've ever watched were after beating Halo on Legendary so I could see that scene with Johnson and the Elite. Other than that I go get a sandwich if I can't skip em. THe nagain there are many games that you can't skip Xd1 point -
Would you take up video Gaming as a professional job?
Withywarlock reacted to killamch89 for a topic
I think we had a discussion like this a few years back and most people came to the same conclusion that it'd make gaming more stressful and after a while you'll suffer burnout and lose the passion for gaming.1 point -
Would you take up video Gaming as a professional job?
Withywarlock reacted to Shagger for a topic
No. It would suck the fun out of it. Based on what I've researched, being a a video game tester is some seriously tedious stuff. You control a character, make the character turn around, face every direction, preform every solo action like bring out a weapon, attack, use items etc for every one of those directions, have the character duck, do all the that again, have the character move one pixel, rinse and repeat for that entire room. Imagining what it would be like trying to actually play the game after doing that, even if it were a great for me, it just wouldn't be the same. It would be like PTSD.1 point -
This first thing I have been able to find out is the the Fortnite Dreamhack Tournament appears to have expired, so I'm afraid that's out. The second thing is I'd advise caution. Legitimate tournaments do often expect players to pay to be a part of the professional associations to pay for tournaments making it very easy to be scammed. I'd never discourage anyone from perusing esports if they're serious about it, but with all due respect the way you have worded you post tells me that you haven't given this much thought. Sometime game companies might host open competitions like Dreamhack, but most of them are made for professionals with capital to invest into thier career either from themselves or from investors and sponsors, and it takes being the absolute best players with a proven record to get there. By all means , keep an eye out for tournaments like Dreamhack in the future and even share them with VGR when you learn about them, but be carful out there.1 point

You need to stop with this "natural flow of conversation" bullshit. I feel like I've said this to you in every way I can say it and I don't know how to make it clearer. This a forum. It is not twitter, it is not reddit, it is not discord and it is certainly not a real life conversation. It is a forum. Structured, organised discussion and debate is what happens on a forum, it is not a chat around a cup coffee with your friends. A thread has topic, and you stick to that topic, that's the deal. Why is that so difficult for you to grasp?1 point

My 2 cents for what it's worth : -> Get atleast one more Moderator or maybe 2, i think the forum is just way too busy for 2 people who have have a full time job and family stuff going on, you can correct me on that if i'm wrong. Either just give them access to the gaming part of the forum which is the busiest part instead of the whole board. -> I'm not really a fan of discord, so i'll just leave it at that. I find it weird to use and don't really get why it's so populair, but then again i'm old and ways off with modern technology. ->While we are on the subject the forum already has more then enough section so adding another section to just chat if you really want to do that go ahead but isen't that what the general chat section is about. -> I'd say the whole board could use a little overhaul, the subsection videogames and platforms could be moved together because in theory they are just the same thing. For the rest of the board i'll admit i don't ever really use it since i come here to talk about games with like minded people. The mainstream topics like what's going on the world i already discuss enough in daily life. ->Maybe on a last note a conversation is bound to go off topic at some point, it's only natural but some people keep going on and on about the same thing that's what irritates me the most. It's not that i don't care what you have to say but atleast add something usefull, for example yeah i know the ps5 is out of stock everywhere but must we go on and on about it. Do some effort to secure one instead of complainging online all the time. -> i really like this place and i'll be happy to keep on posting for aslong the site is around, sometimes a single post takes me half an hour or more (like this one) when nobody bothers replying i feel like i really wasted my time.1 point
-
I think a 'shit posting' thread might be the easiest way to go. The problem though is that people are interested in a gaming topic and get carried away. A sub forum wouldn't spark convo as well. I think when there is a gaming topic that starts to get carried away, there could be a link or invite to move that conversation elsewhere. And they can post there as much they want. Something like that I think is easier to mod. As far as live chat, that would take away from the number of forum posts and good things people say about gaming isn't saved forever for others to read. It would be cool to have though. But in no way whatsoever should politics be allowed in live chat. lol1 point

Whats the rule on emulation discussion ?
Withywarlock reacted to Shagger for a topic
To be clear though, talk of emulation is totally fine on VGR, but talk of emulating certain platforms is a bit of a grey area as the nature of some platforms makes legitimate, legal emulation very difficult, and the PSP is certainly on of those. Still, so long as nobody post links to pirated games, the websites that host them or instructions to "crack" games, then it won't be an issue to discuss them.1 point -
Once it's 9:00 PM UTC, I'm done playing for the day because even my body system would kick against it by trying to shutdown if I try to force it. I usually sleep off on the game should I push it.0 points
