What are things you'd do in VR if it was possible?
killamch89 and one other reacted to The Blackangel for a topic
It's just something I would kill to see. I also want to visit Easter Island, Machu Picchu, the Pyramids, a few specific Greek temples to the Gods/Goddesses, the Great Wall of China, Spedlins Tower, Ben MacDhui, Auschwitz, the Colosseum, Teotihuacan, Nazca Lines, Uluru, and see Mt. Everest just to name a few things.2 points -
The Story of Kingdom Hearts
killamch89 and one other reacted to HowHammerYou for a topic
The KH series is a perfect storm of "I didn't have a long-term plan for making this a series" colliding with "Hey this was successful, we want you guys making more of these games regularly". The sheer amount of fluff that was jammed into the storyline is never more obvious than when you consider that there was a gap of 14 years between the release of KH2 and its sequel KH3, but we were getting new KH games roughly every 2-3 years during that gap. Even though I love KH:BBS, I really do wish the handheld games had never existed due to the irreparable damage they did to the overall story. Anyhow I got what I wanted out of KH3 (Roxas and Xion finally being freed), so I'm done with the series unless they make another game where Roxas is the main character.2 points -
Violent Games and Teen Aggression Aren’t Linked?
killamch89 and one other reacted to Dannyjax for a topic
They can blame video games all they want but it doesn't change the fact that they are totally wrong and their so called research off chart with their half baked findings. A violent kid or a teenager is a product of how the parents brought the child up with things that happened in his or her life.2 points -
The forum's looking a lot cleaner and discussion is far easier to take part in now that the cliques have been mopped up. I look forward to finally being able to rejoin conversation rather than derailing one that's gone on for pages. It's not nice to see full pages of "you've chosen to ignore content from [x]," and I'm glad to see those running the place agree. I hope this message becomes loud and clear to any would-be points farmers that think this place is easy pickings. For now though, I commend the admin and moderation crew for making the tough - but absolutely necessary - calls to get rid of those users who had been frequently warned. All of this said, getting back to the original point: there is still room for a chat box or casual message space (see DarkSpyro's walls, etc.). This may well be the prevention before the cure that's needed. Otherwise, my feedback in other thread still stands. I appreciate that it's been acted upon.2 points

I must confess that I was very shocked when I got your PM because I never saw that coming. For a little time I have been here, @Shaggerhave only asked me once to rewrite one of my post as it wasn't clear for easy understanding which I did. Since then, I haven't gotten an warnings or directions on how to get my posting right. But in everything, I take your update from the PM in good faith and I will try my best to always write something meaningful whenever I'm here. @Shaggerplease always feel free to put me through whenever you see the need to. All, I am working on some changes to address the above issues. Jasmin, Boblee, & Head-Hunter posting abilities have been permanently disabled. Heatman has been asked to take much needed 'cooling' off from VGR. I will temporarily disable his posting abilities if my instruction is not followed. I've sent firm PMs to Clasher, Dannyjax, & Aniekwe but have not yet taken action. I am giving them a chance to make a change and will be monitoring closely along with @The Blackangel and @Shagger As always, we look to the community for feedback. @Withywarlock @kingpotato @killamch89 @Yaramaki @Reality vs Adventure @Crazycrab etc etc Thanks for your patience and continued support of VGR.2 points

I'm putting this here because everyone needs to read this and this discussion needs to be reignited. This is about the recent conduct of one of our newer members @Jasmin and how it has lead to this post here. After making a comment like that, I was not going to allow @Jasmin continue to post on VGR without rescinding that comment and promising to put effort into her content on VGR. At the time of me typing this, she had not done so, but will update if she does. As most of you are aware, we have had trouble in recent weeks and months with people posting just up the count with little to no care over the quality, forethought and purpose of what they post, just putting up anything at all so long as it's a post. That's why this very thread exists. This behaviour has been going on for some time with many of our members and we have been trying to discourage it on VGR with mixed levels of success. Clearly, there is still work to be done. @Jasmin's attitude with regard to what is expected of people as part of this community and contributing to this forum is obviously wrong, but in her deference, I do not believe she is 100% at fault. The habits of too many people on VGR who post farm is what gave this person the impression that this how we're supposed do it on VGR. @Head_Hunter, @Heatman, @Justin11 and others, this is the fruit of your labour. It's your continued insistence on posting like this despite serval efforts on my part to make it clear posting in these spurts of posts in the dozens with 2-3 minute gaps between posts is harmful to the forum. Not only is it a bad example and a bad impression, but these post end up generic, soulless, badly written and virtually pointless and that's if there're on topic at all. These posts also tend to be made in the wake of little to no effort to actually read threads accurately, which not only leads to inaccurate replies, but is also very unfair to other members who actually put effort into what they post. The bare minimum VGR members deserve is to have thier posts read and understood before someone replies to them. EVERONE deserves at least that on VGR. But because of long term members who continue to post in this unhelpful manner, this is what newcomers to the forum like @Jasmin think they are supposed to do, that this is what is expected. I'd say @Dannyjax, @Aniekwe and @Clasher, like @Jasmin are also newcomers to the forum who are also starting to follow the same path and this is very worrying. Trust me, this is not what we want. This has to stop, now. I'd recommending once again that @DC alter the way points are offered to not reward this behaviour, but what we really need is people to go back through this thread, read what people are saying, take the advice on board and post like you care, unlike @Jasmin. And if you're reading this @Jasmin, I asked only the same of you. All I really wanted you to do is understand your perception of what people are expected to do is wrong. Still, it's you choice to come back or not, but if you do I want to see a new attitude.2 points

Favourite and least favourite pokemon games you've beat?
Dannyjax reacted to NightmareFarm for a topic
Favourite: Pokemon Black Least Favourite: Pokemon Moon1 point -
One of the things that's always frustrated me about Mario as a franchise is that, despite existing for 41 years, we've never gotten any info on the character of Mario himself. Has any other character existed for so long and become so iconic with so little known about him? Sure, he saves Princess Peach of the Mushroom Kingdom from Bowser from time to time, but where is he from? Our world? Their world? What's his story? In the original 1985 game it establishes that Mario saves Princess Toadstool from King Koopa, who has invaded The Mushroom Kingdom. But who is he? Where's he from? The animated series The Super Mario Bros. Super Show seemed to answer this back in the day, saying that he was from Brooklyn and he and Luigi were sucked into the Mushroom Kingdom where they helped Peach. The show even opened with the line "Me and my brother Luigi had just rescued Princess Toadstool from King Koopa, and were looking for the magic that would set her kingdom free, and get us home to Brooklyn." So, heck, the show seemed to exist in perfect continuity with the game! Exactly when Charles Martinet started voicing the character, giving him a thick Italian accent, is a bit unclear, but it definitely didn't become super famous until Super Mario 64. Meanwhile, the Brooklyn storyline was used for the 1993 movie. Then, all continuity was destroyed. In 1995, came the game Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island, a prequel to the main games in which Mario is born in Yoshi's world, which is presumably the same universe as the Mushroom Kingdom. So he is from their world, not ours! But that's all we're given. Adding to that, in 1996, Super Mario 64 came out, featuring Charles Martinet's Italian-accented voice, seemingly destroying the idea that the show was in continuity with the games, and further denying the idea that he was from Brooklyn. So...is he from Italy? Is he from the Mushroom Kingdom? What? Who is this guy? WHO IS HE? Heck, there's not even a story for his evil twin Wario. Who is he? Why is he so much like Mario? Geesh, this is insane! Again, no character has existed for so long, and become so iconic, without an actual...character! Some time ago, a fan wrote a nice summation of their own little unofficial story, saying that Mario and Luigi were taken from the Mushroom Kingdom's world as babies, after the events of Yoshi's Island, and raised in Brooklyn. However, they were raised by Italian immigrants, which is where they got their accents (even though, as evidenced by millions of first-generation Americans, that's now how that works). Anyone remember this, and know where to find it, or who wrote it? And I don't even know what the comics have had to say about this! I'm hoping the movie might shed some more light on this, but it will probably just be in it's own continuity.1 point

Which turn based RPG should I play
killamch89 reacted to Shagger for a topic
I had heard of the game, but never played it. I do feel the need to disagree with the idea that JRPG's aren't popular in the west. Not because it's a false claim, on the contrary it could be true, but because the companies that make these games need to know we like them over here. And also that we like them as they are, without the dunning down that has happend to western ports of JRPG's in the past.1 point -
Freemium games where it is hard to stop paying once you start
killamch89 reacted to Withywarlock for a topic
Furthermore, but less relevant these days, was that Fortnite wasn't always free-to-play. It's one of the few games that had a (pricey) entry fee to get into its closed beta stages and only because of the Battle Royale boom did it take off. For all the harumphing that goes on about it (myself included back in the day), Fortnite got that right. So many great multiplayer games would survive if their developers/publishers would get their acts together and cobble together a F2P economy.1 point -

Games that feature trans actors playing trans characters?
Crazycrab reacted to killamch89 for a topic
I have to agree - there are thousands of voice actors who have voiced as the opposite sex in numerous games and other media so I don't know why it should be a big issue. My rule of thumb is that if someone's good enough to play the role, give it to them - end of.1 point -
Games that feature trans actors playing trans characters?
Crazycrab reacted to StaceyPowers for a topic
I don't think that's the issue so much as that certain demographics of actors may have been deliberately overlooked for parts in the past in favour of casting actors who may have been more acceptable to the normative culture. I think it's more about just not doing that anymore. Plus, I do think LGBTQAI+ actors sometimes may like taking parts that help them share their stories with the world and reach out to others in the community who may be looking for inspiration or visibility. I certainly don't complain about the talented Jennifer Hale being cast as Krem in DAI--so far as I know, a cis woman playing a trans man. But I was thrilled to see Ian Alexander cast as Lev in TLOU II.1 point -
I remember Devil Daggers, what a surreal experience that was. I think the longest I was able to last was about a minute or so. I don't know about games where you're doomed the moment you start playing and it's all about just about lasting as long as you can, I personally find it hard to motivate myself to play games like that. Not that I don't understand the appeal because I do. I would even go so far as to say everyone should try Devil Daggers at least once. It looks great and the atmosphere is just as daunting as the gameplay itself.1 point

Define your epic moment in sports
killamch89 reacted to The Blackangel for a topic
Watching the Red Wings win the cup in 2008. I was elated seeing that. We haven't taken the cup since then, and we lost a LOT of our best players. Some due to retirement, others due to injury. We even traded a couple of our best, which still pisses me off. Also the first game I went to was a win for us. It was in the final minutes of the game and we were down by two. But we pulled it out and won. The second game I went to was on my birthday, and we won that one. So I've had some good moments with my team.1 point -
It's still useless because digital games are tied to your online account, unless you would be okay to have a complete stranger have access to your online account they can't do jack shit with the digital games installed on a console. Hmm unless you use it as frisbee or simulair actions and use your disc the normal way like a normal human being, it's damn near impossible to scratch up a blu-ray disc. Also i never understood how people can be so careless with their belongings like how can a disc be scratched up so badly while all you have to do is keep it inside the case and it's will be fine for years to come.1 point

Worst retcons in video game history?
Reality vs Adventure reacted to Withywarlock for a topic
World of Warcraft's Legion was oft hailed as the best expansion since The Burning Crusade/Wrath of the Lich King, depending on which you played first (if neither, it was the best expansion period), especially for its story. However, it was apocalyptic to its lore: it was decided and made canon right there and then that your race and culture followed the same lore as everyone else. Trolls were hit the hardest: the Light that previously came from the Loa was just the same Light used by the Draenei, Humans, Dwarves and Gnomes. That Hex Priests (Warlocks) didn't manipulate and bargain with spirits, rather they drew upon the demons beyond the Twisting Nether... like every. Warlock. Ever. That Sunwalker Paladins of the Tauren had the exact same goals and ideals, as well as drawing power from their god, was the same as the others. Forsaken (sentient undead) Warriors were granted immortality by the Valkyre because of their class hub. Legion's story works if you disregard the core of how you interface with the game: your class. It's essentially changing the lore after the fact. One example I use is of Doctor Who: the First Doctor was the grandfather to one of his companions; it was later changed to him being a Time Lord, an alien from the planet Gallifrey, but had kept this a secret from her and went by the name of 'grandfather'. Or in Buffy the Vampire Slayer, we typically know her to be kickass, but in the episode 'Normal Again' she's actually hallucinating all of this, and the real Buffy is in a psychiatric ward for schizophrenia. Creator Joss Whedon left that episode's ambiguity up in the air on purpose, much to the ire of the fanbase. Interestingly, the Buffyverse RPG plays quite well to things that aren't necessarily canon, like the Wishverse (an alternate world where Buffy doesn't get to Sunnydale in time) or Hellworld (where the apocalypse is brought about in Season 5). Think of it as a correction to what is canon, or what is now "the correct" information in-universe.1 point -

The Story of Mario
Withywarlock reacted to Shagger for a topic
Honestly, I envy anyone tasked with figuring out Mario's cannon. It's something that has ripped and and re-built so many times, not to mention the character was created at a time stories and lore for video games were any never complex than "Save the Princess". I hate to make this worse, but somehow Donkey Kong has to factor into this as Mario first appeared as the hero in Donkey Kong before Mario Brothers. Even if we ignore the movie (and frankly, we should) this is a jigsaw puzzle where half the pieces have changed shape and colour.1 point -
Do gamepads work on PC for games that are PC-only?
Withywarlock reacted to Shagger for a topic
It all depends on the game in question and how the port was handled. Wether the game is a PC exclusive is irrevant. One should not assume that game will not be compatible with a gamepad because it's a PC exclusive, nor should one assume that when a game is multiplatform that a gamepad will work. The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion, for example, is not comparable with a controller on PC. The only way to make it work is to use 3rd party software to map keyboard functions to the gamepad, like ReWSAD or AntMicro. Such things these days are very rare, especially amongst mainstream games, so there is little reason to worry.1 point -

But the past few weeks it's damn near impossible to keep up with board to read everithing and let alone reply to something that interest me, it's kind of discouraging whenever i see the latest posts of the general gaming section are made by one person. I don't know if a chat function will change anything about this behaviour because we already have the general chat section for that but who am i to talk. A max post amount a day would be better imo but like i said who am i to judge.1 point

I see the point if you wanted to "upgrade" to a better device, but the OP was talking changing a controller for purely aesthetic reasons. It's fine if you wanna do that but I just think it's odd. My two cents for what it's worth, stop making these vague one sentence posts that make zero sense and start putting some tought into your posts by making your point clear so people know what you mean exactly if you don't like being quoted.
