If you were a SuperHero what would be your dark/sad back story?
Justin11 and one other reacted to kingpotato for a topic
The title says it all, if you were a super hero what would be your sad or dark back story? Quoting South Park the Fractured But Whole, "He was traumatized and become a hero because his dad fucked his mom" xD My back story as a small spud a rabid squirrell ate the other potatoes at my garden, therefore I became Super King Monarch Supreme Lord All Mighty Overpowered Brazzers actor Humble Warrior Beer Champion Potato and now every time I see a squirrel at the street I throw my loose change at them2 points -
I do have a argument as to why digital is better. It has actually been a massive help to the indie industry and I'd argue it's what even allowed for the indie scene to actually exist as digital distribution has been easier, cheaper, and less risky for developers to utilize. Meaning that the indie scene itself really is only possible for digital distribution. Mainly because indie developers rarely have the money to print out copies of a game.2 points

I got a PSP 2000!
Empire Of Sight reacted to Patrik for a topic
Hello VGR, i recently decided to pick a PSP 2000 because it's one of the sick consoles that i wanted to try since my childhood, i completed Metal Slug XX on it recently and have GTA VCS, looking forward for your games recommendations!1 point -
The last three Assassin's Creed games: Origins, Odyssey, and Valhalla each have a separate Discovery Tour gameplay option. The Discovery Tour is fact based history that helps guide you to learn about culture, religion, people, and places. On the main title screen instead of playing the main game, click on DT to learn more. What it is, is the same entire map but with icons you can fast travel to and have a guided tour explain history of that location. There is no fighting or anything, but you can still climb on everything and explore using all sorts of different characters you can play which unlocks. In the main game, when you arrive at a new location, check the Discovery Tour to see if there is some history you can learn about first before progressing more in the game. That way you can play region by region or city by city and learn what you can. For example, I've started a new game for AC Origins. I've come to the city of Alexandria and did a few quests and explored a bit. Then I exited the main game and checked the DT which had around 10 or so tours for the city of Alexandria learning about the pharos, battles, Gods, art, education and philosophy, etc. which is spread around the city. Then when I've completed those, I went back to the main game and traveled to another region where I checked again Discovery Tours there and found history on fauna, animals, agriculture, beer making, etc. And now I'm ready to move on to the pyramids where there are tons of history tours there. Playing this way has enriched my gameplay. I've learned a great deal and it's just amazing. Many people who play those games really don't appreciate the historical aspect of it. So that's why I've made this topic as the best way to play these games. This literally can be taught in schools if there was even more focus on history. Cause like I said, the tour allows you to traverse the same map as in regular gameplay and you can fly your eagle around and soak it all up and go into forts and absolutely everywhere w/o worrying about getting attacked.1 point

A new UI theme would be cool
DC reacted to NightmareFarm for a topic
Dunno if there is a secret method to change the UI but if not it would be nice if there were more themes like red, green, yellow, light blue, etc. Or if there was a custom build feature which let you choose two colours for your personal UI.1 point -

Humbe Bundle is at it again with a great bundle of games, this time being for the Resident Evil franchise. The bundle includes 11 games in total if you pay the base price of $30. But it gets you: So yeah, not a bad deal at all for $30. If I had the cash to spare at the moment, I'd for sure take advantage of this. You can find this deal below. https://www.humblebundle.com/games/resident-evil-decades-horror Moderator Edit: This bundle is available now and will remain on offer until August 24th.1 point

That is a brilliant point. I don't like labelling the kind of developers you speak of as "indie" for reasons I've spoke of in the past (To summarise, an indie game can come from a one man team of a shed of a huge company employing thousands because "indie" liberally means it's independently published.), but I know what you mean by "indie" developers and digital distribution really has been a godsend for them. Social media has help as well because it's empowered "word of mouth" like never before and gives good games from talented, small indie dev's a real chance to get traction and get noticed. Again, a great point @Techno that I didn't think of.1 point

I Hate To Admit It, But Digital Distribution Is Growing On Me....
Techno reacted to Withywarlock for a topic
I can't believe I hadn't thought of this one. It's the primary reason why one of my favourite games of all time Tombi! (AKA Tomba!) didn't sell all that well: it didn't have a distributor. This was a game by Tokuro Fujiwara of Capcom fame, creating his own studio named Whoopee Camp, so this wasn't some two-bit bootleg operation selling PS Value Series games. It wasn't until after traversing the red tape between Sony and other rights holders that it eventually got re-released on Playstation Network, finally receiving the justice it long deserved. Given how over 80% of games are now purchased digitally, it'd be even harder for an indie title to stand out with physical copies. Back in ye olden dayes of 1997 the Platinum/Essentials/Greatest Hits label was released: a game had to have sold 400,000 copies to have been redistributed with this label. Tombi! didn't get a Platinum label. In the present day however Starbound has sold over 1,000,000 copies. Guilty Gear Strive has sold over 1M copies. Spiritfarer sold over 1M copies. The Forest sold over 5.3M copies. I'm sure I needn't go on. Brick and mortar stores are getting shut down left, right and centre, and what few are still around are more multimedia merch stores. Like I love HMV as it is now, but the percentage of physical discs and the return of vinyls is still dwarfed by the number of shirts, plushies and posters you can buy. While this thread does focus on the consumer side of things, it's good to think on how the creators of those games reach us to play them.1 point -

Last Game Played
Withywarlock reacted to Yaramaki for a topic
Oof finally got around and beated The council played through late in the night yesterday, only to begin today with the same thing some puzzles were brutal and for one i had to look up a guide online, others toke me a few hours to figure out, you get plenty of hints here and there, only problem in my case was you have to understand the hints the game throws at you, toke me a while to figure the hints out. I got a pretty decent ending altough couldn't save everybody but all in all well worth the 20+hours i putted into the game eventough the story is sometimes hard to follow early on, but it all falls into place into the last 2 episodes. Had to mop up a few achievements i've missed but with these type of games it's fairly easy since there is a chapter select and you can skip all the dialogue. I'd say a job well done and the perfect way to conlude my 3 week vacation, off to work we go tommorow.1 point -

Are esports players underpaid?
Justin11 reacted to Withywarlock for a topic
Given nurses in the UK make on average ~ÂŁ34k a year for a significantly more stressful job, requires greater physical activity, and is - let's be honest - significantly more important... no, esports players are not underpaid by any stretch of the imagination. But what can really be done about it, if anything needs to be done about it? A lot of esports money will be generated from sponserships and advertising deals; the amount of teams kitted out in jerseys with Monster logos ironed on is innumerable, so it's got to go somewhere. Viewership and ticket prices will also generate their salary, with people paying to fill up seats at stadiums or with virtual/digital tickets. Merch in games being sold based on the teams playing the game from Overwatch to SplitGate will, again, get them a healthy cut and go towards hiring the venue to play. The only way I could see esports players being underpaid was if they couldn't afford to do their jobs, but if they can't afford to play video games on $75k per annum, what are they doing wrong?1 point -

To the OP: I used to buy nothing but physical games. I have embraced digital purchasing and I only have one physical game in my possession and that's Animal Crossing New Horizons. I also have the digital version of that game. One can never be too careful with a favorite game. *Grins* It's just handier to buy online instead of having to traipse to the store only to discover it's out of stock. I can order games in my jammies, download and play them. LOL! The only thing I don't like is that I can't play them offline. No wifi...no games.1 point -

Alone in the Dark
Heatman reacted to Knight Plug for a topic
It's not that I'm being a pussy and running away from them. In general, though. You have to say to yourself, "They're not interested in hearing this. Why continue?" Sometimes it felt good to lay out the truth. Then they just spout more crap about how it's not true, and this is just my opinions. But of course, if you provide evidence to the contrary and they're still not convinced despite what you just provided in front of their faces, they're just not going to listen to logic, no matter what you say. They even say smart alleck things like, "Alone in the Dark inspired RE, so Capcom copied that long before the recent games you mentioned!" Yeah. As if that's any excuse to blatantly copy all the games I told them they obviously had copied (with proof offered). You know? They seem to like to have an answer for every counter-productive post you leave. So that's why it's pointless to tell them what they will ignorantly continue to overlook. It's like you're standing there shouting at a brick wall, to be honest. Petulant school children.1 point -
If you were a SuperHero what would be your dark/sad back story?
Gonassis reacted to Empire Of Sight for a topic
I was born, stitched together , sown ... just a mere Yellow Hat.. Cursed by this easily faded color, quickly damaged by greasy fingers... left in the closet 11 months a year until spring returned. As I faded... the darkness set and slowly changed me to a black hat I never forgot the abandonment.. Hopping head to head , thrift store to thrift store, homeless camp to shelter I would spread,,, spread my lice , coveting the scratching of all who wore me would endure. I believed in torture by kindness thus keeping their heads warm I would shed the unfathomable seed of itching sorrows..1 point -
I'd love to start a team
Clasher reacted to ForwardSlashDownPoke for a topic
You also don't want to waste too much time in one division because competitive play for games outside of fighting games can often have several limitations. Several years ago, most of the COD tournaments in the Advanced Warfare era really just focused on one type of gameplay mode. Fighting games generally let you pick whoever you want, with whatever tools you want, and you're aloud to play any way you want. Some newer people might think that they can just cheese their way through an elite tournament with spamming but that doesn't work because fighting games are based on math and frame data. There's math involved in throwing out a fireball or projectile, for example, and all a pro has to do is know how to counter that math with better math and touch you one time with a full combo punish that could result in 40% damage or more each time they touch you just single time (depending on the fighting game). That means that someone could just open you up 2 or 3 times clean and your entire bar is gone, whether you try to spam or not. So in that sense spamming is generally welcomed in tournaments, but frowned down upon in certain circumstances as people are looking for a showcase of skill and its quite frankly easier to beat people with combos.1 point -

The new WWE 2K games don't even come close to here comes the pain and some of the other games to follow. It's like night and day compared to hctp. Hctp has some of the best game modes, gameplay and more. I'm pretty sure they have GM mode that has more options than 2k22 does. If you've never played it, I highly recommend it. It's one of the best around. That and the smackdown vs raw series.1 point

Ever beat a legit pro gamer?
Gonassis reacted to ForwardSlashDownPoke for a topic
Yeah some of those dudes in the shooters are military guys just using basic law enforcement tactics at some of the higher profile games. "Camping" isn't really a thing in the sense of it being bad; it's more or less "taking control of a strategically important area", and it can take patience and skill to get people off of some of those areas because the maps are just designed that way. But I do it all the time, you just need map knowledge. A video game is the same as real life in terms of something like a high point that militaries would use as an advantage. If you are on a high point, you have observation of a large swath of the battlefield and people occupying those positions can kind of pick shots at you at will -- and if they are teamed up with people, you are better off not even trying to take certain positions from them. Skills in those areas cover a large swath of areas such as pure patience, recognizing the skill level of opponents online, strategic isolation of your opponents in some cases, guerilla warfare tactics, knowing which spots to try and take, and knowing who to trade with and when. Another thing you need is a headset, so you can hear subtleties online. If you are going to try an exchange, perhaps at a critical section of the map which could change the direction of the game, with an elite opponent, it's good to know if he's got a spotter near him in an overt or stealth position. Sometimes if a person, or two people, are controlling a power weapon spawn area: You can catch one of the occupants getting bored with controlling that area and then going back out into the field -- so you can then challenge the solo guy for the area and power weapon, changing the game. But that comes with actual patience, and almost a very stealthy ability to surveil your opponents before making a move. Think about the opposite of "camping", which is endlessly free roaming the map and leaving yourself wide open to fire from a whole range of different firing angles.1 point -
